Ancient Spiritual Chant Infused with Resonant Entrainment Technology... [World Kirtan, Chants to Live By!]
Introducing World Kirtan - Chants to Live By.
The ancient spiritual technology of chant -- infused with iAwake's resonant entrainment technology, spiritual technology 2.0.
Pam Parsons Dupuy here. It has been more than a year since we started recording and many years before that, that I'd been feeling the pull to develop such an album.
So, I'll tell you how it began. Members of a weekly meditation group, Joy Morris and Bernie Skydrummer, wanted to start a Dances of Universal Peace (contemporary Sufi tradition) monthly practice. That meant not just singing but doing circle dancing with others, sometimes gazing into each other's eyes, etc. I wasn't into that. No eye gazing for me : ).
Bernie & Joy tried to get it going but the Dances didn't gain traction here, so they switched to offering a weekly kirtan group, with the music based primarily on chants from the Peace Dance movement. This DID gain traction. We regularly packed 8-20 people in weekly, for years. I loved it. Love it. It is the fastest way I know to bliss, to joy, and for me, rather than trancing out it is also quickening ... I feel more awake, present, alive, loving.
This led me to go off and attend kirtans with famous kirtan artists: Krishna Das, Snatam Kaur, Deva Premal, Dave Springer, Wah!, etc.
But here's the thing. While each of those experiences was special, it did not have the evocative power of our small local group. I would come back disappointed, having missed the level of quickening, the joy in harmonizing, the bliss, and the sometimes cathartic emotional releases I experienced with our group.
I am still not exactly sure why. But things that are different about our group are:
- We don't just sing Hindu chants, we sing from many traditions, including Sufi-based chants, since the Peace Dances arose out of and are part of Hazrat Inayat Khan's lineage. We sing to God and Grandmother Moon, to Jesus and Adonai, to Buddha, to Shiva to Ram, to the earth, to each other. Yeah!
- We don't typically do call and response, but we sing in unison.
- It's a small group, so we can hear and weave our voices together spontaneously, creating harmonies as they naturally arise.
- There is not a performer/audience split. Bernie Skydrummer, our main leader, is adept at feeling into the group's needs, enhancing or slowing the chant as he tunes into the energy of the group. He acts as a facilitator and vehicle.
In the end, I don't care so much about the why, but I wanted to share our group's experience, as much as we are able, via this recording.
We asked Javi Otero to infuse the chants with entrainment technology, and from the first track he did, The Heart Sutra Chant, we knew this was it. Somehow he has managed to support the primacy of the voices and energy while amplifying the power of the track through his tech & musicianship artistry.
As you listen, listen, with your heart and your soul. Chant with us, harmonize, close your eyes and feel the resonance, the joy, the yearning, the love.
We are introducing World Kirtan with a 20% Off Introductory offer through October 2nd. There's also a playlist of audio clips on the World Kirtan webpage.
