 Hi Luella, This was an interesting article. I have started my garden this year at the church where Shirley and I are members. It is called the Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church in Greenwood, Indiana. A friend of mine was helping me the other day. I had put in my tomatoes, pole beans, bush beans, Summer Squash, cucumbers, and onions and garlic. One of the priests at the church, Father Francis from India, had donated a big bag of horse manueur which I used on all my plants. My friend John had gone away for awhile, but returned. as I was putting the last of the plants in the ground, he said let me help you. He went back and got something out of his vehicle and started spreading it over everything that I had planted. I had not noticed at first what he was doing, however he went back and got a spray canister and started spraying that. Just then, Father Francis came by and asked what he was doing. I turned to see that he was spraying pesticide and had already sprinkled some other chemical on my plants. He told Father Francis that it was alright because he and his wife always use it on their garden. Of course Father Francis asked why I let him use those chemicals on my plants after I had already used the natural fertilizer. I told him that I did not know what he was doing. John laughed it off saying that there was no harm done. All the farmers used chemicals. Father Francis responded that he was raised in India to a farmer's family and they never, ever poisoned their vegetables with chemicals. Later, John told me that the priest did not know what he was talking about. I still have zucchini, bell peppers, radishes, and cauliflower to put in, and as I love tomatoes I may put more tomatoes in as well. I am always very careful in how I raise my garden, But there are always those people that want to help you by poisoning your food. I already have too many chemicals in my body from the medication that I have to take, I don't need it in my food as well. I am 73, and I do not have that many wrinkles. John is 64, and there have been people that have thought that our ages were reversed. I guess when you are friendly with Monsanto it shows.
