“Look Past Appearance”
Marilyn O’Leary, RScP
I noticed yesterday that it was light a little later in the afternoon. That reminded me that as I took down my Christmas lights and got the house back to its normal, nature was beginning to bring more light to our days even as it felt colder outside. It’s a good reminder to look past appearance, feelings, habits, to the reality. The divine reality on which I choose to focus is that God is all there is. There is no opposing force, no entity that is bad. It is all goodness. When it doesn’t seem that way, it’s because we, humans, have made choices that express a lack of love. But it doesn’t mean that God is not present in all experiences. It means that even as it feels cold, warmth is coming behind the cold. Even as I feel a need to seek love, it is already here, for me, in me.
Knowing that God is all there is, I affirm God is love, warmth, comfort, inclusion, friendship, family, health, well-being, oneness. All that I seek is what God is. I know and believe that I am one with God, and that all I seek is in me. All I have to do is to feel the truth of God-in-me, so that as I feel and believe in oneness, love, warmth, comfort, inclusion, friendship, family, health, well-being, it is manifested in my life. I am never far from what I seek. The light is always there, even though it might feel cold and far away. I affirm that love in all of its forms, light in all of its manifestations, well-being on all levels of experience, is in my life now, and in the life of everyone who reads these words and believes them. The power of my word is in the belief in them, and so they are true for all who believe them. Health, abundance, well-being, love all come to me now and to all who participate in this prayer.
I am grateful for the operation of Spirit in my life, for the way every prayer and affirmation is answered, for the truth of the light behind all experiences. I am grateful for all who read this prayer and believe it, for it brings love to the world in the most beautiful ways. I am fulfilled, calm, peaceful, and blessed by this prayer. I release it, and let it go. And so it is. Amen.
