The Daily Meditation 6.17.2014 “Let Your Light Shine“ Marilyn O’Leary, RScP
Because I took a meditation class with Rev. Bonny Rice, I am reminded of how luxurious it is to sit in silence. Every morning I give myself time to slow down. I sit quietly. I breathe in peace and let the chatter in my head dissipate. When I do this, I can get in touch with the Oneness that connects everything and everyone and that I perceive as Divine Spirit. That sense of what is behind and supporting the material world, of what is supporting me, allows me to ask for guidance. I drop into my heart and let myself be bathed in love and compassion. This morning I asked what my purpose is. This is a big question, and the answer takes different forms, but the essence is to be myself and to be a light in the world. It reminds me of the simple song many of us learned as children, This Little Light of Mine. When I remember that all I have to do is let my light shine, not fix anything, not change anything, but let my light shine and see what I am motivated to do out of love and caring, then worry and doubt disappear. From this place I am grateful for all that life has given me, and especially for Life itself. I don’t have what the world would call a grand purpose. But my purpose usually brings me and others happiness. When we remember the ripple effect of a smile, maybe that is a grand purpose after all. Be grateful, let your little light shine, let it go, and see the happiness you can bring to yourself and the world.
