Everybody hates Mosquitos!

Did you know that there are plants that can help repel those skeeters, without the use of pesticides and other poisons?

Here is a list of 31 naturally mosquito repelling plants. All of these can be planted around the yard, or grown in containers.

1) Basil, an herb, great for cooking and medicinal uses also.
2) Bee Balm, attracts hummingbirds and bees, crush the leaves to release the oils to repel skeeters.
3) Cadaga Tree, repels skeeters just from the naturally released scent.
4) Catmint, cut off flowers, boil to make a spray.
5) Catnip, one of the active ingredients, nepetalactone, has been found to be 10x stronger than DEET in repeling mosquitos.
6) Cedar trees
7) Citronella grass, when crushed, releases an oil that is an effective repellant when rubbed on the skin
8) Clove (Syzygium aromaticum, Eugenia aromaticum or Eugenia caryophyllata)
9) Floss Flower
10) Garlic
11) Lavender
12) Lemon Balm
13) Lemon Grass
14) Lemon Scented Geranium
15) Lemon Thyme, crush leaves and rub on skin, do a small section first to make sure you don't have a reaction.
16) Lemon Verbena, crush and rub on skin
17) Mexican Marigold
18) Eucalyptus
19) Nodding Onion, actually most onions repel them to some extent
20) Mint
21) Pineapple weed
22) Pitcher Plant
23) Wormwood
24) Rosemary
25) Snowbrush
26) Sweet Fern
27) Tansy

Thanks David that is interesting and very helpful. I have catnip growing in my garden, I will have to plant some in a pot on my deck, so to have it close when I walk out the door.
