Good point. And, frankly, I don't totally agree with this article either. I guess sometimes spanking works (not to be confused with beating). However, Rule #1 in spanking. Never spank a child when you are angry. Cool down first.
Spanking can also result in anger issues and fear. Both not constructive emotions which can impact the rest of a child's life.
For example, I was spanked (well, bordered on abuse). So my reaction was fear and I grew up afraid of my parents. So with my own children I never spanked. Oh yes, there was discipline, which was quite effective, but at least some emotional issues were prevented.
