Confining your Horse?
9/1/2013 12:46:39 PM
Always a great topic in the horse community:

How confined should horses in our custody be?

Do we pen our horses for our convenience of management of for their well being?
Your thoughts?

As long as we are raising and caring for horses, there are going to be times that they need to be confined, whether it is to treat them for a medical condition, grooming them, etc.... but I firmly believe that if you don't have at a minimum 10 acres of land for a couple of horses, 20 acres for 4, etc.... then you have no business owning them.

Horses need a lot of room to run around in, to forage for food, etc..... and keeping them penned up constantly isn't good for them.

Hi Chuck,

Happy to join your Forum, and it's really great to see you again after so many years.

Not sure what I might contribute regarding Horses and their care and raising, but I'll look forward to lively discussion.

Thanks Again Chuck,

Phil Black

That is true David, but there are so many new "horse owners" and many do not have the privilege of large tracts of land to keep their horses pastured.
We have observed that a "stalled horse" can be very well adjusted if THEY are handled and exercise regularly.
That is the problem.
When we had our boarding stable is was in the contract the Owner must visit and handle Your horse a minimum of 3 times weekly.
