(The Best Years in Life) This summer has been abnormally hot and dry in much of the country, with very little rain or other relief and plenty of advisories to stay indoors. Such heat can literally suck the life out of you the same way it does to the parched ground and withering plants - and it can do so for animals as well as humans, especially dogs which are normally kept outdoors. As we head into August, usually the hottest month of the summer, there appears to be no relief in site for us or our pets. People so often leave their poor dogs in vehicles.

We need to remember.

Actually, dogs should not be in cars at all during the summer. Unless we're leaving from the house straight to a destination where the dog can get out. Too dangerous. Just a stop to run into a store for 5 minutes or even stopping to get gas in this soaring heat could have deadly consequences.
