Quote: Hello Roger,
Do you think this depicts a man walking away from hist past towards his destiny? As there appears to be a city in the mist past the painting..

Quote: I love surrealist paintings or those paintings that follow themes. Last weekend (May 2012) I discovered a local artist who blew me away. Richard Whincop There really are great relatively undiscovered talents out there painting copyright Richard Whincop Check his website and in particular his figurative art. Richard has followed a theme of People viewing great art and his work can be seen at www.richardwhincop.co.uk Read the story and links. Worth a visit Hi Jim, Welcome here. I had a chance to speak with the artist about this painting. Richard Whincop the artist is interested in religion within art and the people who view such masterpieces and what might go through their minds etc. When richard viewed the masterpiece he noticed the black and white squared tiles in the gallery and thought how much they reminded him of the patchwork England of fields from the air. see below Richard then allowed his thoughts to see things through the eyes of an English WWII fighter pilot involved in the Battle of Britain which took place over southern England (see link) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Britain You can see the British fighter engaging a German fighter. It was crucial that Britain repulsed this as invasion would have followed. The baby in the painting is giving a blessing, there is a cross on the German plane and the figure, the planes and the painting make another cross. Complicated but you are right. The old pilot remembers the fight and the blessing that he received. Roger
