Tackling Temptations (James 1:12-24)
By Rev. Dean Beaty 3/25/12
James 1:12&19 “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when
he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life…Wherefore, my beloved
brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:” (KJV)
We must know God’s Word to face the trials of each day.
It is where we learn the truth; that our feet are made of clay.
For all mankind are sinners and for this we need the Lord.
By faith in Jesus Christ God’s spirit is outpoured.
We all have our opinions of which we think are best.
But it’s better to keep quiet and learn from all the rest.
Opinions vary widely for our backgrounds are diverse.
What we always thought was good might just be the worse.
Do not read the Bible to apply it to another.
This helps us not at all, much less our Christian brother.
Righteous men must never hold anger in their heart.
There’s no fellowship with God when wrath is off the chart.
Get rid of that which hinders so we can hear God’s Word.
For it will cleanse the heart and correct where we have erred.
If our life is yet unclean God’s Word has no avail.
Then when temptations come we are on the path to fail.
A humble contrite spirit will help get rid of pride.
For if pride is not put down, life will be a bumpy ride.
Meekness makes us teachable to learn the Word of God.
Without a humble spirit our walk with God is flawed.
“Be ye doers of the Word and not just hearers only.” (Vs. 22)
If we think that pleases God, we’re just full of baloney.
If we do not act on truth the moment that we hear,
The problem will continue and God’s Word will not adhere.
James 1 20-24 “For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive
with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye
doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any
be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his
natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and
straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.” (KJV)
