Hello Dear Friends,
Here is a very important question to start our search about Forgiveness...
Is there any Prerequisites to Forgiveness?
From my own experience, Forgiveness is a Process that requires much attention from My Part in order to fully Understand the whole situation; Time is Needed in order to get ready for True Forgiveness; even then, Forgiveness can be very Difficult to Accomplish.
a) The first step is proper "Investigation"...
Investigating all there is to know about the actual situation...
Recognize How I Feel... Hurt, Anger, Hatred, etc.
What exactly Happened? What are the actual Facts about the situation?
What do I perceive as being an Injustice?
How do I feel about Responsibility? Others' Responsibility? My Responsibility?
What was My Role in the event? The Role of Others?
Why did they act in such a way? Can I get to Understand their Point of View?
A very good Understanding is the First Requirement of True Forgiveness. But, it requires a Heartfelt Desire to Understand, to Inquire about all of the Facets; the Courage of Looking at Ourselves not as Victim but as a Fully Responsible Being who has some kind of Responsibility in the event; and, the Impartiality to Envisage the Point of View of Others.
b) The second step is "Choice"...
Now that I have a Clear Understanding of the whole situation, I need to Make a Decision, to Chose to put aside any claim to revenge, no matter how justified or subtle it may be. Until I am able to totally let go of my Thoughts, Feelings or Intentions for revenge, I am not yet ready to Forgive. I may need more time, information or dialogue; unless I would need to Consider the Offender's Perspective from a more Compassionate Point of View. To be ready to Forgive, I must Decide to deal with my own pain by myself, Chose to Ask and Get all the Needed Help in order to Heal myself, rather than try to pass it on to others.
Choosing is the Second Requirement of True Forgiveness. Again, this is a question of Free Will, of Choice. And, again, We will Reap as We Sow, according to the Choices We make. The Choice is Ours always!
In my Humble Opinion, in my Own Perspective, there are No Other Prerequisites to Forgiveness.
