A True Experience With Pepper Spray... A Lesson Learned

Does Pepper Spray Really Work?

This question is often asked by prospective buyers. Let me tell you about what

happened this morning December 27, 2011.

My 15 year old grandson picked up my pepper spray and accidentally sprayed

it in the house. (Boys will be boys!) The results were traumatic!

Though the one-second release of spray went harmless into the air and not toward anyone, it wasn’t long before the spray spread like wildfire and permeated a large area

of the house. Within moments he began to feel the effects of the spray; burning eyes and a chocking cough. Though I was about 25 feet away, I also began to experience the powerful effects of just a very small amount of Pepper Spray. He ran to my wife rubbing his eyes. (though that is a natural reaction it’s the last thing you want to do) She got a washcloth with cold water and baby shampoo and washed his eyes and then rinsed them in cold water.

It was indeed a traumatic experience that I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. But it sure proves that

Pepper Spray works! We turned on the attic fan and hurriedly left the house for the safety of McDonalds for some R&R (plus breakfast). Within a few minutes out side, the effects wore off leaving us no worse for the wear but with a much wiser grandson.

Hi Dean & Gladys,

I bought some this summer and never used it, and mentioned to my sons that I wanted to test it outside maybe on a bird or squirrel, they told me NOT to spray ANYTHING. The kids were worried about all wildlife out there. So my pepper spray still hasn't been sprayed.

It is important to test spray it and I guarantee the spray if sprayed with the wind to your back and being alert that no animal is around there will no harm done.
How To Test Your Pepper Spray
  • Go outside in a safe place.
  • Always stand with the wind to your back.
  • Point the nozzle away and spray for half a second.
  • Test the product every six months.
  • The Pepper Spray has a shelf life of 3 yearsdepending how you care for it.
