Taegŏ asked again, “What prompts one to form close affinities with others?” The Founding Master said, “Sentient beings ordinarily form close affinities through either the wholesome affinity of friendliness and affection or the unwholesome affinity of hatred. Buddhas and bodhisattvas form close affinities through loving-kindness and compassion in order to deliver sentient beings.”
