Being a Father is a Calling
By Rev. Dean Beaty 6/11/11
Ephesians 5:25 “Husbands, love your wives and children, (inserted)
even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;” (KJV)
Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance:
against such there is no law.” (KJV)
A father is a husband but with much more work to do.
It is for him to teach his own just what is right and true.
This is not an easy task, not all are qualified.
He must learn just what is truth from Christ the Crucified.
He first must learn humility for he needs a helping hand.
And a knowledge of God’s Word on which all truth must stand.
A father needs to master prayer for he is not alone.
Casting all his cares on God, as he kneels before His throne.
There he’ll find the gifts he needs especially the one that’s eighth.
Love, joy peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith.
Meekness* calls for sacrifice, not seeking one’s own will.
This trust that God gives fathers; He will help them to fulfill.
Number eight is next to last and difficult to control.
Fathers stand in Jesus place. There is no greater role.
Not a place for pomp or pride but true humility.
Giving all for those he loves, as Christ on Calvary.
Your child will live forever in heaven or hell below.
Their spirit is eternal; will you help your own to grow?
Grow to know the Savior; no greater call could be,
Than to lead your child to Christ for all eternity.
*Meekness = controlled strength
