I Can’t or I Won’t?
By Rev. Dean Beaty 8/27/09
Ecclesiastes 9:10 “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.” (KJV)
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (KJV)
Have you ever said “I can’t”, when you really meant “I won’t”?
Let me tell you why it’s wrong and my advice is, don’t.
If won’t was your true meaning, then cannot was a lie.
It’s better to be truthful than trying to be sly.
My parents use to tell me; “There’s no such word as can’t.”
‘Cause often when I said it, I wanted to gallivant.
It is only normal to think of self and want first your own way.
But lying or disobedience, will lead you far astray.
Would your parents ask you to go and lift the car?
They know what you can do. You’re not a superstar.
Give your folk some credit for they’re wiser than you think.
So try first to obey them. It keeps things in the pink.
As you read your Bible, God too will call on you.
His wisdom is much greater and He knows what you can do.
Take “can’t” from your vocabulary. It’s not a useful word.
If God calls you then you can, of that truth be assured.
