lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast,
saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.” (KJV)
Two men went to the temple to bring to God their prayer.
One man was a Pharisee who lived his life with care.
He thought that by observance of Moses and the Law.
That he would gain perfection and life without a flaw.
But even in his prayer great pride was seen within.

He thanked God he was better. That was his earnest prayer.

He only asked for mercy in dealing with his sin.
He smote upon his chest and hung his head in shame
In great humility he called upon God’s name.
Jesus made this statement to all those standing near.
“This man went home justified.” For his praying was sincere.
