THE CURSE OF THE CROSS
By Rev. Dean Beaty 3/23/09
Galatians 3:13 “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse
of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written,
Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:” (KJV)
Some people wear a cross from a gold or silver chain,
Not thinking of the truth; that it was a place of pain.
It stood for more than death, for torture was its aim;
Physical and mental for it also brought great shame.
“Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree.”
To hang in naked shame, for everyone to see.
There were torments from the crowd and taunts of cruel hate.
This was the most cruel death that man could e’re create,
For hours the victim hung and some would last for days.
In winter’s icy cold or the summer sun’s hot rays.
The cross was never meant as an ornament to wear
In gold or silver trim to give the wearer flair.
Satan’s done his best to make us stupid fools.
If you’re going to wear a cross, don’t make it one of jewels.
It’s not a good luck charm but a place where blood was shed.
Why not wear a cross that’s blood stained crimson red?
The Bible tells us of a cross that we should bear.
But it’s not the kind of cross that you see most people wear.
For it’s a cross of service to Christ our Lord and King.
As a token of our love, that we owe Him everything.
