GOD’S THORN OF GRACE
By Rev. Dean Beaty 3/12/09
II Corinthians 12:7-9 “…There was given to me a thorn in the flesh,
the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made
perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities,
that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (KJV)
Take it from Paul who struggled in pain.
He sought relief thrice but it was in vain.
Nothing had changed; he was still in God’s hand.
More abundant grace was what God had planned.
We don’t know for sure just what was Paul’s thorn.
But God gave him grace that it might be borne.
So Paul kept God’s thorn seeing Him in it all.
All sufficient grace was God’s gift to Paul.
What do you bear as your; “Thorn in the flesh?”
God’s purpose is this; that our focus be fresh.
See it as from God; what He has allowed.
To lift up our eyes and not our heads bowed.
“My grace is sufficient.” Take this truth to heart.
God’s presence and love will never depart.
He is aware of all the trials we face
And through it all is the gift of God’s grace
