THE LOST INHERITANCE
Luke 14:8-32
By Rev. Dean Beaty 12/27/08
What was the total loss to the young prodigal son?
When he left his father’s home and went out on the run?
When the boy came back home, did he get it all restored?
There was a robe and ring and a great big smorgasbord.
Yes, these things were replaced along with some new shoes.
If you think that is all good, I’ve got some tragic news.
He lost the fellowship for the time he spent away.
Kinship with his brother had fallen in decay.
The wealth the father gave: all his inheritance.
It could no more be restored. No not the slightest chance.
The father had divided his living with his sons.
As for another round there were no further funds
If you waste the many gifts, God has given as reward.
You will find in heaven that they will not be restored.
Though the prodigal came home which made the father glad.
The wasting of God’s gifts will only end up sad.
