HE BECAME SIN FOR ME
II Corinthians 5:21 “For he hath made him to be sin for us,
who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness
of God in him.”

It was not nails that held my Lord upon that cross of shame.
It was my sins that held Him there to die to clear my name.
Christ was the spotless Lamb of God, becoming sin for me.
He took my sins upon Himself and died to set me free.
No sin had ever touched His heart from all eternity.
And yet the filth of all the world, He bore on Calvary.
The nails, the whip, the crown of thorns, these all caused Him pain.
But worst of all my sin and shame upon His back were lain.
What agony must have tortured Him while on the rugged tree?
To cry out to His Father, “Why hast Thou forsaken me?”
The Father could not look on sin and so as though on cue,
The sky was filled with thick dark clouds to hide His Son from view.
He who knew no sin Himself became sin willingly,
And shed His blood for all mankind that day on Calvary.
Oh, what mercy, love and grace to me that day was given,
So that I could be made free to live with Him in heaven
