DON’T BE A LOT LIKE LOT
Genesis 13, 18 & 19
By Rev. Dean Beaty 12/11/08
Lord, teach me from the Bible and help me learn the plot.
To be like faithful Abraham and not a lot like Lot.
Abraham taught his nephew to call upon God’s name.
As God blessed faithful Abraham, God blessed young lot the same.
They traveled down to Egypt where wealth was spread abroad.
It must have had an influence for it turned Lot’s heart from God.
The pursuit of this world’s riches became his life’s main aim.
Lot parted from his uncle and never was the same.
He pitched his tent toward Sodom to raise his family.
But it was not the place to start a family tree.
The wicked men of Sodom, like the city by the bay,
God said He would destroy it and that without delay.
God sent along two angels to free Lot from the mess.
But he wasn’t in a hurry to leave this wickedness.
The angels told Lot’s family; “Don’t look back on God’s assault.”
Lot’s wife did not obey and became a pillar of salt.
God has such loving patience, it’s hard to comprehend.
But His mercy has its limits and He will judge sin in the end.
Do not spurn God’s mercy; call on God while He is near.
By faith alone in Jesus Christ there’s nothing more to fear.
