The Thanksgiving Dinner That Almost Wasn’t
By Dean Beaty 11/27/08
‘Twas the day of Thanksgiving and at our mad house,
I got up at five along with my spouse.
The turkey was placed in the oven with care.
Three-fifty degrees was the temperature there.
Since I was still tired, I laid down for a nap.
I never expected a further mishap.
Murphy was right; it’s been true all along.
No matter how careful, it still can go wrong.
Here was the problem. I’m getting to it.
The oven was beeping and just would not quit.
Since I was in bed, that means momma was left.
With mechanical things she just isn’t deft.
So, pushing the buttons to make it be quiet,
She turned off the oven; oh boy, what a riot!
Two hours later I discovered the error.
Anyone want turkey that’s undone and rare?
Dinner would be later than the time it was set.
And I’m watching the stove so there’ll be no regret.
The meal was planned for noon at this zoo,
But I’m hungry now! I won’t make it till two.
p.s. The dinner was at one and was very delicious.
We praise The Lord for big and little blessing and
hope your Thanksgiving was a joyous one.
