My mother taught me to wonder...about God, the grass, the sky, insects, the birds.. My mother taught me to see beauty...in dirt, (we came from there), in mentally handicapped children, in deformities others had, in attitudes everyone has (good and bad). My mother taught me to find understanding...when someone hurt me, when someone abused me, when somone did something I felt was stupid, when someone didn't quite meet my "standards". My mother taught me to love...God, myself, others close to me, then she taught me to love the unloveable, the ones who hurt me most, the ugly, the deformed, the repulsive...THis and more she taught me. Most of all my mother taught me that the MOST IMPORTANT JOB IN THE WORLD IS.. To Be a MOTHER... Hope you guys like this.. Kathy, My mother taught me not to steal! We were really poor and the family next door used t have me baby sit for them They had a dime collection the temptation to take some of them overcame me. Of course the temptation arose again and again untill it became noticable. We lived in a small town, only 1 store and of course I was spending the neighbors dimes at that store. It didn't take to long to determine who was taking their dimes, and my parents were told about it. My mother confronted me and I did confess. In that day and time, a parent could still chistazie their children by spanking them. My mother sent me out to get a good switch and wonders of wonders (living in the woods) I couldn't find one. However, I did come back with a broken axe handle. You guessed it! My mother was so mad she said "Son, if that is what you choose to be whiped with, so be it". She began to whip me, and it progressed all over the house. When she was through, I had some bad black and blue marks. Yes, she whipped me bad, but I never held it against her because the lesson "Tho Shalt Not Steal" was well embedded in my mind. Today, there is nothing a person has that is worth stealing!!!!! This is because I remember signing the "Axe Handle Blues"! James
