S.A.D. Seasonal Affective Disorder- Symptoms and Management
11/4/2008 6:27:24 AM

We are experiencing a beautiful fall here in Northwestern Ohio as mother nature dons her prettiest dresses. The evenings are crisp and cool which is great for high school football games.  The nights are cold in the 30’s so that we can bundle under the blankets we had caste aside for summer.  The frost tolerant plants like beets, swiss chard, kohlrabi and cilantro are enjoying the sunny days without the stress of extreme heat.

However, there is a dark side to this season. Go here for the rest of the story.

Share your experiences with S.A.D./share your ideas for dealing with it.

Hello Mary,

I was happy to post a comment on the blog.

We, as a family turned a problem into a success. We bought lighting to help our plants and ended up flowering ourselves.

Roger, very kind of you to add a suggestion on the blog.  That is what will make it valuable.

I include plants in my home environment but never gave it a thought that they contribute to  my management of S.A.D.  Caring for pants, watching them grow and eating the fresh veggies all contribute to mental and physical well being.

Have you ever  been  in a home where there are not plants.  Now that I think about, I feel a little unnerved.  It seems so sterial.  Without vibs from plants, some key ingredient to well being is missing.

As you say a special light is needed to grow some plants and that adds to the total light available in the room.
