The Gift of Grandchildren
By Dean Beaty 10/1/08
Grandchildren are the greatest thing that’s come along my way.
They brighten most occasions especially their birthday.
Just make a chocolate cake and put candles on the top.
It’s guaranteed this party will never be a flop.
Grandkids see the sunny side when dark clouds come down low.
Why I did not have them first I’ll surely never know.
Another thing that makes them sweet, like a dripping honeycomb.
If you’re tired and need a nap, you can always send them home.
Their parent’s hands were always out looking for a buck.
To satisfy them with a dime, well you were out of luck.
Grandkids take a piece of gum and think that you are great.
Let them spend the night with you and you become first rate.
Their parents spent most every night and couldn’t wait to leave.
And when they said, “The car broke down,” they thought you were naïve.
So if you progeny are smart, they’ll have lots of kids.
And drop them off at pa-paw’s house before he hits the skids.
