Antioxidants are being touted by many as the wonder cure for almost anything. The good news is that there is plenty of information to back up the claims. The bad news is that there aren't many ways to get the necessary amount of antioxidants to the problem areas for real results to take place. Or at least, there hasn't been until recently. Recently we've learned about Glutathione, which enables the body to produce the antioxidants it needs and utilize them fully.
But, why are Antioxidants Important?
Boost Immunity
Perhaps the greatest thing about antioxidants is that they are known to give your immune system a little push. This helps you fight off infections and illnesses that can take a huge toll over time. As you age, your body is less able to fight off these illnesses partly because it isn't able to keep up with the antioxidant production of younger years.
Of course, immunity goes beyond this and actually manages to protect you from environmental factors in addition to the general things that people think of like colds and viruses. The impact of toxins in the environment can be particularly brutal on your immune system. The greater your antioxidant consumption the smaller the impact.
Cancer Fighting
The most commonly mentioned of all properties of antioxidants seems to be the ability they have to help the body fight cancer. It makes sense when you consider that cancer is essentially mutated cells. The antioxidants pair with those cells and minimize the damage they can do to other cells around them.
By neutralizing these harmful or damaged cells they are preventing them from invading healthy cells nearby. This helps your body stop certain types of cancer before they have the opportunity to take over. That is the problem with most forms of cancer. They mate, multiply, and divide so rapidly that your body is overwhelmed before you even knew the cancer was there.
Youthful and Healthy Skin
One of the biggest contributors to skin aging and the outward appearance of age is damage to the cells by free radicals. Antioxidants prevent this damage because they stop the free radicals before they have a chance to tip the scales of age in the favor of Father Time.
Free radicals interfere with the production of certain lipids and oils that protect the skin keeping it moisturized and beautiful. Wrinkles and other signs of aging are the direct result of damage to the skin. In many cases that damage could have been prevented if free radicals weren't taking over.
Antioxidants do an excellent job of corralling the free radicals that cause all manner of tragedies and maladies for your health and beauty. Unfortunately, most methods of getting those ever so important antioxidants fall short, or at least they have in the past. Recent discoveries have shown that Glutathione makes the most of the antioxidants in your body while helping your body produce more when needed.
