Friends,

I would like to dedicate this thread to memories of our Mothers.

Please post an memory of your mother that gives you pleasure and share with us. Post as many memories as you like and/or when you think of a memory. You may even post a memory of something your children have done for you as a mother.

Hi Val.. This is Great!!! Thank You for this thread..;-)

I miss my Mother. She was the Strength of our family and always pulled everyone together on Holidays and Picnics and was the heart of all the fun. There was never anyone that She left out. She had a way of making everyone smile. I always think of that when I miss her.

Hello Valerie.
This is a lovely thing to do because like you I lost my mother and I now have real joy when things happen that remind me.
Although there are sad times they are very much less.
I know that she wouldn't want me sad so that's my tribute to her.

My special memory of my mother is her unflappability.
If we would arrive unexpectedly at their house with our children my father would beam with delight and fly around in all directions trying to please everyone and especially the kids but mum would show her obvious joy by putting the kettle on for a cup of tea, telling the kids to help themselves to a biscuit (sorry, cookie) and a cold drink and just start a conversation with everyone whilst continuing what she was doing when we arrived.
All the neighbours came to her in emergencies. One old fellow tried to gas himself with his head in the oven and having been discovered unconcious by a neighbour my mother was called.
Unflappable as usual she forced the door, went into the house, dragged the old man outside, went back and turned off the gas AND THEN discovered that she had a lighted cigarette in her mouth. That was my mum.
Sorry to say that the cigarettes got both my parents in the end. They all smoked in those days.
Hope this was ok?

Hi Valerie

Thank you for this opportunity to honor our Mothers.

The Fifth Commandment

“Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.”

(Exodus 20:12 NRSV)

“Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God commanded you, so that your days may be long and that it may go well with you in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.”

(Deuteronomy 5:16 NRSV)

“You shall each revere your mother and father, and you shall keep my sabbaths: I am the LORD your God.”

(Leviticus 19:3 NRSV

The Bible says everyone is to honor his or her mother, and God is pleased when we take practical measures to fulfill this command.

Children of all ages should Love their Mother unconditionally. We are to care for Mom no matter how she carries out her maternal responsibilities. Some women will do better than others at living up to their God-given role. But all children are called to love their mother simply because the Lord has placed her in their lives.

So, be attentive to Mom’s needs. Starting in infancy, kids are accustomed to taking from their parents. So it can be easy to forget Mom and Dad have needs too. Stop and consider what your mother might appreciate. For example, household help offered cheerfully is usually welcome. As Mom grows older, she may need assistance for her physical or emotional well-being. Some women desire only that their children express gratitude or care.

Live righteously. Proverbs 23 says the greatest gift we can give a godly mother is to surrender our life to Jesus Christ. Even a mom who isn’t a Christian will no doubt take pride in a believing child whose life is filled with love, kindness, and charity.

And, pray for Mom. Nothing is more practical than prayer. Talking with the Lord about Mother, both privately and in her presence, reminds her that she is important and loved. The specific ways you cherish your mother will depend upon her personality and yours. But Mother’s Day isn’t the only time to show her your love and gratitude. Honor her every day.

Softly in the mornng you heard a gentle call

You took the hand God offered you and quietly left us all

The day you left us mother our hearts just broke in two

The smallest part still's with us, the biggest part with you

For the rest of our lives we will miss you mother our secret tears still flow

Oh how we really loved you no one will ever know

We miss your smile, your joking ways, we miss the things you used to say

And when old times we do recall, its then we miss you most of all

Your were always there when we needed you, no task too great or small

With loving heart and willing hands, for us you did it all

Look around your garden Lord, and when she turns and smiles

Put your arms around her and hold her for a while

We hold you close within our hearts and there you shall remain,

to work with us throughout our lives until we meet again

So rest in peace dear loved one and thanks for all you've done

We pray that God has given you the crown you've truly won

Dedicated to my mum, Isabel Scullion 17/09/32 to 05/09/05

God Bless

Fionnuala
