Our Poet for the Month of May 2008

Joe, Welcome to this feature. We are honored to have you share your poetry with us and look forward to reading more of it this month. (Hugs!)
Hello My Dear Adland Friends,
I've never really thought of myself as a poet, but I have to trust in Sara's expertise. Sara herself has written some very special poems and has featured many others who became admired by us all. Thank you Sara for seeing something in my works.
I've never studied poetry and could not even begin to tell you what the styles are that I have used. Usually when I write a poem, it is because something very huge has occurred in my life or one of those precious moments has caused me to take a pause. They come about because my soul has a need to speak.
I have written poetry about being alone, love, broken hearts, "why", my God, friends, travel, hearts and time. Only a few have ever left my writing pad, but as Ecclesiastics 3 says, "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven...".
I'll try to post a new one every few days. Enjoy!
Sincerest Hugs,
Joe

It really is a small world! I have made some of the most precious wonderful friends right here in Adland from all over the world! This poem was written for all of you...
A Dabble With Travel
I thought of buying a car,
but wondered could it take me afar?
Could it take me as far as I want to go
because some places there are no roads.
What about a trip to Hawaii
or maybe a long walk-about in Aussie?
There are plenty of places to go
Like All over Canada and beaches in Mexico,
Europe is huge and much to see,
I think I'd like with the Queen to have tea.
Set my watch with the Big Bend
And to witness the changing of the guard at the days end.
A pleasantry would be a ride down the Rhine
Occasionally stopping and having some wine.
Or maybe a drive through the ALPS
Eating a meal of knockwurst and sauerkraut.
One could not miss Paris
Wouldn't you agree, Oui oui?
To be bathed on the Eiffel tower in a full moon's glow!
Then off to have some wine while reviewing Picasso.
I'd like a trek into Romania, the most beautiful lands
Stopping off to visit some dear and wonderful friends.
Serbia is just around the corner, I can't wait
So much family of with to celebrate!
Ah, but wouldn't it be grand
on top of a pyramid to stand?
After visiting Athens and having some fun
and to finally see the magnificent Parthenon.
I must decide to visit the coast of the Black Sea
or maybe St. Petersburg is where I would be.
I found articles about the forts and the Taj Mahal
and realized that I cannot visit them all!
I must admit that a horse ride along the Sengani would be a treat,
or a long barefoot walk on the Lekki would be neat!
With my camera a safari I couldn't pass up
To see the wild lions, elephants, giraffes and such.
It has come to my realization
that I cannot decide to visit civilizations
or jungles, deserts, or answer the call of the wild,
But I do hope I'm gone for a long while.
