Georgios,

Wow this is absolute overwheeling. I have been reading, listening for an hour and half and there is still more to see.  It is wonderful.  I don't know which part is the best.

The Pagan- Winter Solstice  Celebration is amazing, I am just blown away by all this.
I will have to go to all the countries and check them out.  I am looking forward to this.

Thank you so much for your post.

Merry Christmas to All,

Myrna

Hi Georgios,

I'm still clicking away and learning about the different traditions in the different countries. Must say I'm enjoying it thoroughly.

Hi Gaby, Hava Nagila became well known all over the world when Harry Belefonte sang his version of the song. I read that you'd like to know what the words mean cos it was a "happy song" I decided to find you the translation of the song. As you'll see not only does  it sound happy the words are happy ones as well.

 Lyrics

Transliteration Hebrew Text English Translation
Hava nagila הבה נגילה Let's rejoice
Hava nagila הבה נגילה Let's rejoice
Hava nagila venis'mecha הבה נגילה ונשמחה Let's rejoice and be happy
  (repeat stanza once)
Hava neranenah הבה נרננה Let's sing
Hava neranenah הבה נרננה Let's sing
Hava neranenah venis'mecha הבה נרננה ונשמחה Let's sing and be happy
  (repeat stanza once)
Uru, uru achim! !עורו, עורו אחים Awake, awake, brothers!
Uru achim b'lev sameach עורו אחים בלב שמח Awake brothers with a happy heart
  (repeat line three times)
Uru achim, uru achim! !עורו אחים, עורו אחים Awake, brothers, awake, brothers!
B'lev sameach בלב שמח With a happy heart

It should be noted that ch is pronounced like the German ch after a back vowel, as in Bach or Spanish j [IPA: /x/].

Merry Christmas & Shalom,

Peter

Thank you so much Peter, that was really sweet of you to find me the translation, at least now I know what I'm saying. It really is a wonderful and happy song.
Thank you my brother.

Shalom,
Gaby
