Paperclips, blobs and globs... a side of humor.
7/8/2006 1:34:25 AM

So.. the phone rang one day a while ago. It went like this;

Client: Hi Linda! I was trying to find that email you sent me about that paper clip thing for ads, but I can't find it. Do you know where it is?

Me: The paper clip thing for ads? Do you mean pay per click? I did send you an email explaining how pay per click works. Is that what you can't find?

Client: Pay per click? What's a pay per click?

Me: You know the ads on the right hand side of the page at Google?

Client: Yeahhhhhhh...?

Me: Those are "pay per click" ads. We've talked about those.

Client: No, no, no! Not at Google. Just a regular ad.

Me: Regular ad? (pause...) Tell me what it is that you want to do, okay?

Client: Okay. I am putting an ad in the paper and I need to send the adcopy to them. I can't find the paper clip.

Me: (stifling laughter) OH! I see! Do you have your email open?

Client: Yes, because I was trying to find it.

Me: Look up at the very top row of your screen...

Client: Oh, look! There it is! Thank you SO much, I knew you could help!

Me: You're very welcome....

LOL. I kid you not. Eclipsed only by conversations about blobs, globs and dings. (errr... blogs and pings?)

Got business humor?

Linda

Hi Linda,

Ya gotta laugh...

I have a member on my surf site who is sending me constant abuse complaints

about one of the sites in the rotation - everything from it being an adult site to

it breaking frames, using redirects, etc.  This person really hates the site.

The thing is, the site is MY site, and none of the allegations are true.  It is simply

that this member has an axe to grind against the type of content my site contains

(it is family-friendly) and is going all out to try to get it banned, not realising that

it belongs to the OWNER of the site!

It just goes to show you how little research some people will do.  Perhaps a

little more digging would help this person to realise that, hey, the site really

is quite tolerable!

Anyway, I suggested that the member try closing her eyes whenever the site

appears, as it will only be there for 20 seconds, anyway...

God bless,

Dave

Both of those were hilarious.  Linda's reminds me of the jokes that go around about computer tech support  people and the wacky things people call about.

And Dave's reminds me of the time I was applying for graduate school.  I was very annoyed because the preliminary application form was several legal-sized pages of questions in tiny type and it wasn't clear where to put the answers to which questions.  When I took it to the department where I wanted to apply, I spoke sharply to the person who helped me, not knowing it was the administrator himself.  I said "Have you ever really looked at this form and tried to fill it out yourself?  It's the most asinine form I've ever seen...you can't tell where to put the answers, and there isn't room for them anyway..." blah, blah, you get the drift.  When I wound down, he looked at me and said icily, "Yes, I have looked at the form. I designed it."

Funny, I never did get that master's degree.
