Natural wonders

(a selection)

The natural wonders of the world never cease to amaze. Many of them remain untouched, untraveled, and unexplored.

Mount Roraima, Venezuela. Mount Roraima is the highest of a chain of plateaus in Southern America. It takes approximately two days to reach the base of the mountain from the closest village of Paraitepui, another day to climb the staircase-like ramp to the top, and another two days to return. Budget some extra time if you want to camp at the top. (Hiking Mount Roraima de exposedplanet)

Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, Iceland. The best thing about the Seljalandsfoss waterfall is that you can hike up, around, and behind it. Just make sure you are prepared to get wet. (One of a Kind de andywon)

Cliffs of Moher, Ireland. The Cliffs of Moher is a natural rocky formation carved by a combination of time, ocean, and weather. In the 1st century BC, an old fort once stood where the Moher tower now is. It is a very popular tourist destination and has often appeared in famous films such as Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. (Cliffs of Moher - Ireland de _ R i c a ® d O _)

Angel Falls, Venezuela. Angel Falls is the world's highest uninterrupted waterfall. It was named Angel Falls after Jimmie Angel, the first American aviator to fly over the falls. This waterfall inspired Paradise Falls in the Disney animated film, Up. (DSC_8962 Angel Falls de ENT108)

Svartifoss, Iceland. Svartifoss, or Black Falls, is a waterfall surrounded by dark basalt lava columns. It takes about 2 hours to hike up to the falls from the Skaftafell Visitor Center. (Svartifoss de andywon)

Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, Indonesia. The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in Indonesia is named after the two volcanoes, Mount Semeru and Mount Bromo. The Tengger comes from the village people who inhabit the area. (Bromo-Tengger-Semeru… de tropicaLiving - Jessy Eykendorp)

The Wave, Arizona. This fun rock formation is appropriately titled The Wave, not to be confused with Wave Rock. The Wave is Navajo Sandstone that has been eroded over time. A permit from the Bureau of Land Management is needed to visit. (The Wave de coulombic)
