World moral authority? Exposing the US role in Saudi Arabia's war on Yemen

mattis
As atrocities and scandal begin to mount regarding the US-backed Saudi-led war on the impoverished nation of Yemen, the involvement and hypocrisy of the United States and other Western backers is coming to full light.

Global condemnation of Saudi airstrikes on civilian targets has brought public attention to Washington's role in the conflict - a role the Western media has attempted to downplay for years. It is ironic, or perhaps telling, that alternative media outlets targeted as "Russian influence" are leading coverage of Yemen's growing humanitarian catastrophe.

US Denies Role in Proxy War That Couldn't be Fought Without It

In a recent press conference, US Secretary of Defense James Mattis - when asked about the US role in the Yemeni conflict in regards to Saudi atrocities - would claim:
We are not engaged in the civil war. We will help to prevent, you know, the killing of innocent people.
Yet nothing could be further from the truth.

Mattis himself would lobby US Congress earlier this year to continue US support for Saudi-led operations in Yemen.

A March 2018 Washington Post article titled, "Mattis asks Congress not to restrict US support for Saudi bombing in Yemen," would admit:
Defense Secretary Jim Mattis made a personal appeal to Congress on Wednesday not to restrict the United States' support for the Saudi-led bombing campaign in Yemen, as the sponsors of a privileged resolution to end Washington's involvement announced that the Senate would vote on the matter next week.
Support includes US intelligence gathering for Saudi operations, the sale of of US weapons to the Saudi regime, and even US aerial refueling for US-made Saudi warplanes dropping US-made munitions on Yemeni targets selected with the aid of US planners.

In essence, the US is all but directly fighting the "civil war" itself.

Abetting War Crimes, Sponsoring Terrorists to What End?

As to why the US believes it must continue supporting a proxy war Saudi Arabia is fighting on its behalf - beginning under US President Barack Obama and continuing in earnest under current US President Donald Trump - the Washington Post could conclude (emphasis added):
The war in Yemen has inspired much controversy in Congress, as lawmakers have questioned why the United States has involved itself so closely on the Saudi-backed side of a civil war against the Iranian-backed Houthi rebel forces. Successive presidential administrations have presented the campaign as a necessary component of the fight against terrorism and to preserve stability in the region. As Mattis put it in his letter to congressional leaders Wednesday,"withdrawing US support would embolden Iran to increase its support to the Houthis, enabling further ballistic missile strikes on Saudi Arabia and threatening vital shipping lanes in the Red Sea, thereby raising the risk of a regional conflict."
However, Mattis, his colleagues, and his predecessors have categorically failed to explain how Iran constitutes a greater threat to either US or global security than Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia is a nation admittedly sponsoring Al-Qaeda worldwide, including in Yemen as revealed by a recent Associated Press investigation, and the nation which both radicalized the supposed perpetrators of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on New York City and Washington D.C. and from which most of the supposed hijackers originated from.

If Iran is indeed waging war against Saudi Arabia and its terrorist proxies in Yemen, Iraq, and Syria, the real question is - why isn't the United States backing Tehran instead?

The obvious answer to this question reveals the crumbling moral authority of the United States as the principled facade it has used for decades falls away from its hegemony-driven agenda worldwide.

The US and its allies created the "War on Terror" and intentionally perpetuated it as a pretext to expand militarily around the globe in an attempt to preserve its post-Cold War primacy and prevent the rise of a multipolar alternative to its unipolar "international order." It has done this not only at the cost of hundreds of thousands of human lives across the Middle East, North Africa, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia, it has done it at the cost of trillions of taxpayers' dollars and the lives of thousands of America's own soldiers, sailors, aviators, and Marines.

Canada Too

A recent row between Canada and Saudi Arabia over supposed "human rights" concerns appears to be a vain attempt to salvage the credibility of at least some nations involved in the now 7 year long war - the last 3 years of which has seen direct military intervention by Saudi Arabia, its partners, and its backers - including Canada.

The Guardian in an article titled, "'We don't have a single friend': Canada's Saudi spat reveals country is alone," attempts to portray Canada as taking a lone, principled stance against human rights abuses in Saudi Arabia - abandoned even by Washington.

The article would claim:
The spat appeared to have been sparked last week when Canada's foreign ministry expressed its concern over the arrest of Saudi civil society and women's rights activists, in a tweet that echoed concerns previously voiced by the United Nations.

Saudi Arabia swiftly shot back, making plans to remove thousands of Saudi students and medical patients from Canada, and suspending the state airline's flights to and from Canada, among other actions.
The Guardian would also claim:
...the US said it would remain on the sidelines while Saudi officials lashed out at Canada over its call to release jailed civil rights activists.
Canada's feigned concern for "human rights" in Saudi Arabia comes at a time when the Canadian government continues approving of hundreds of millions of dollars worth of arms sales to Riyadh. This includes small arms and armored personnel carriers Saudi forces are using in their ongoing invasion and occupation of neighboring Yemen.

The feigned divide between Ottawa and Washington over Saudi human rights violations is overshadowed by years of commitment by both North American nations in propping up the Saudi regime, and aiding and abetting the very worst of Riyadh's human rights abuses unfolding amid the Yemeni conflict.

Canada's apparent role is to help compartmentalize the worst of the West's decaying moral authority, containing it with the US, and taking up a more prominent role in the West's industrialized "human rights" and "democracy" leveraging racket.

While Canadian armaments help fuel genocide in Yemen - Canadian diplomats around the world fund agitators and directly meddle in the internal political affairs of foreign nations predicated on promoting "human rights" and "democracy."

In Thailand for example, the US has receded into the shadows, allowing Canada, the UK, and other European nations to openly engage in political meddling on their behalf. US funding and support continues, but the public face of Western "outrage" is increasingly becoming Canadian, British, and Northern European.

However, Canada faces the same problem that has permanently eroded American credibility. And as its role in perpetuating real human rights abuses worldwide continues to be exposed, its feigned concern over token or even manufactured human rights concerns will increasingly appear hypocritical and hollow, undermining the West's collective ability to leverage and hide behind human rights and democracy to advance their self-serving agendas.

Suicide bomber kills 48, injures 67 in Kabul, Afghanistan

A suicide blast in the Afghanistan capital of Kabul has killed 48 people, the Health Ministry has said. A further 67 were wounded in the explosion that occurred on Wednesday in a mainly Shi'ite area of the city.

A suspected suicide bomber blew himself up outside an educational center in the western part of the capital.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, although Islamic State (formerly ISIS) has previously said it was responsible for attacks on Shi'ite targets.

The incident comes as the government faces pressure over a Taliban attack in the city of Ghazni, which led to five days of fighting in the capital, claiming the lives of hundreds of civilians and members of the security forces.

According to the United Nations, up to 150 civilians have been killed in violence in the strategic provincial capital.

While Afghanistan's Defense Ministry claimed that government forces would soon regain control of the city as "Taliban militants had been pushed back," civilians at the scene say that fighting is ongoing.

"The Taliban are still roaming the streets and using civilians as human shields. They are scattered inside residential areas which cannot be targeted by airstrikes," Aziz Ullah Hussaini, a shopkeeper, told the Times.

Tens of thousands of people have been trapped in the city since the militant group broke its defenses in the early hours of Friday morning.

Meanwhile, a further 17 soldiers were killed in Kabul on Wednesday after Taliban fighters overran a military base in the north of the capital. The assault came as a huge blow to government forces, which were already stretched as they battled the militant group in Ghazni.

The government has been struggling against a Taliban resurgence since NATO troops withdrew in 2014.

NATO troops have since been in Afghanistan leading a non-combat mission to train, advise and assist Afghan security forces.

Comment: It's past time the U.S. ceased its useless war in Afghanistan. They never should have started it in the first place:

Better Earth

SOTT Earth Changes Summary - July 2018: Extreme Weather, Planetary Upheaval, Meteor Fireballs

july
This month was marked by incredible amounts of water falling in a very short period of time all over the world; killing thousands, displacing millions... and damaging more crops.

China, South Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, South Africa, Nepal, Pakistan, India, Sweden, Russia, Italy and the US, were the most affected by the sheets of rain and the resulting flash floods during July. Japan also experienced an historic flood that caused widespread damage, 200 deaths and thousands displaced.

Italy, Brazil and South Africa all had their share of unseasonable or 'rare' snow this month, leaving the local population rather surprised.

As the 'heavens opened' in many places, high temperatures, droughts and wildfires hit California, Sweden, Norway, and Greece; the latter being the worst affected with 94 deaths, hundreds of displaced, 2,500 square kilometers ravaged with hundreds of people forced to flee to the beaches.

There were significant fires in California, but no record was broken, until now, the fire of 1937 maintains the record with almost 90,000 square kilometers burned. Even combining all of the hectares burned by fire in California in the last five years aren't enough to beat that 1937 record. In addition, since the 1930s there has been a net decrease in the incidence of fires in the state.

The same applies to the fires that developed in Europe, no records were beaten and there has been a significant drop in the incidence of fires since the 1980s, as Adapt 2030 has stated. The high temperatures recorded in July in Europe do not compare to those of the 1930s, not to mention the extreme heat experienced in Europe and much of the US over several years in the late 19th century.

Again, we see the mass media focusing and magnifying the localized incidences of high temperatures and wildfires; one headline even stated that the world hasn't experienced such high temperatures since the emergence of our civilization (10,000 years ago), a statement that is just plain wrong.

The Earth's surface temperatures are indeed rising due to geologic and volcanic activity, and the more direct incidence of solar rays due to the weakening of the magnetosphere. But forgotten amid the hype is that temperatures in higher layers of the atmosphere have been plummeting. Proof of this is seen in the increasing incidence of solar and lunar halos, noctilucent clouds, multicolored steles, ever-growing hailstorms and of course, unseasonable snowfalls. And let's not forget that we had rare snow events in the northern and southern hemispheres in both June and July this year.

So don't be fooled, many of the earth changes we are now seeing are due to the low solar activity, the weakening of the magnetosphere, as well as the cosmic rays maximum. And all these changes are not specific to our Earth, we are finding parallels in other planets of our solar system. As someone said, "not by fire, but by ice..."

August 15, 2018, Channel NewsAsia

KOCHI: The death toll from the worst floods in nearly a century in the Indian tourist state of Kerala rose to 43 on Wednesday (Aug 15) as rising water stranded tens of thousands of people and forced the closure of one of its main airports.

The five latest fatalities from the rain that began a week ago came when authorities in the southern state were forced to release water from 35 dangerously full dams, sending a surge into its main river.

Hundreds of villages have been flooded and the military has been called in to help with rescues.

More than 10,000km of roads and hundreds of homes have been destroyed or damaged across the state, officials said.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s office announced on Twitter that Kochi International Airport – the main gateway to the region – would be closed until Saturday “due to heavy rains and resultant flooding.”

A Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) official told AFP that the death toll was expected to rise.

A heavy rainfall “red-alert” has been issued across much of the state, which is home to around 33 million people, the official added.

“Our state is in the midst of an unprecedented flood havoc,” Vijayan said earlier this week. “The calamity has caused immeasurable misery and devastation.”

A senior official with the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority, Sekhar Lukose Kuriakose, said the seasonal rains have killed more than 200 people in the state since May and displaced many.

The state last saw such devastating flooding in 1924.

Famous for its coastline and picturesque backwaters, Kerala has become a major destination for domestic and international tourists.

The US embassy last week advised Americans to avoid Kerala, which drew more than one million foreign tourists last year, according to official data.

Kerala today shut the Kochi airport till Saturday as rains returned to wreak more havoc in the state. At least 25 people have been killed so far today, and thousands others are being evacuated from the fresh Kerala floods.

The state has opened 35 of its dams, a first in history, even as the Mullaperiyar Dam’s water levels remained a concern.

Kerala was just limping back to normalcy after the worst floods since 1924 killed 39 over the last week. So far, more than 1 lakh people have been rescued in the state.

“Kochi Airport operations temporarily suspended till 18th Saturday 2pm since the inflow of water is still on a raising trend. We are working hard to drain out the storm water,” Cochin International Airport Ltd said in a notice on its website.

Radioactive sheep boost claims of secret Israeli nuke test

Radioactive isotopes discovered by scientists in Australian sheep have added gravity to longstanding claims that a mysterious flash above the Indian Ocean 39 years ago was actually an illegal Israeli nuclear weapon test.

On September 22, 1979, US satellite Vela 6911 detected a ‘double flash’ near the Marion and Prince Edward Islands in the southern Indian Ocean. Ever since, there has been speculation that it was actually a nuclear weapon test carried out by Israel. According to the memoirs of then-US President Jimmy Carter, this was also the assumption of American generals who briefed him on the incident. The official position of the Israeli state is to neither confirm nor deny having a homegrown military nuclear program.

Now a new paper, published in the Science & Global Security journal, says radioactive isotope iodine-131 had been discovered in the thyroids of Australian sheep in the month following the so-called ‘Vela incident.’

Christopher Wright of the Australian Defense Force Academy and nuclear physicist Lars-Erik De Geer, who used to work for the Swedish Defense Research Agency, have analyzed thyroid samples that were sent monthly to the US in 1979. The information on test results was only recently made available to the public under the Freedom of Information Act.

The isotope levels found in the sheep affected by rain four days after the incident, “would be consistent with them having grazed in the path of a potential radioactive fallout plume from a 22 September low-yield nuclear test in the Southern Indian Ocean,”the paper states.

The researchers said that the analysis of weather patterns suggests the fallout plume from a nuclear explosion would have carried over from the test site in the Indian Ocean to parts of Australian territory.

The assumption that a nuclear test took place in 1979 is also backed by the analysis of the declassified“hydroacoustic signal” from US underwater listening devices, the study added.

The research “removes virtually all doubt that the 'flash' was a nuclear explosion,” Leonard Weiss, nuclear weapons expert from the Stanford University, wrote in the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.

He pinpointed Israel as the responsible party because it was “the only country that had the technical ability and policy motivation to carry out such a clandestine test.” According to Weiss, it was just one of several aerial nuclear explosions performed by the Jewish state, which was detected by the US satellite due to an unexpected change in the cloud cover.

Researchers say the Israeli test was carried out in violation of the Limited Test Ban Treaty from 1963, and urge a large-scale international probe of the incident.

Israeli Ambassador to New Zealand Itzhak Gerberg denied the findings of the research in a comment to the New Zealand Herald, calling them “simply a ridiculous assumption that does not hold water.”
