Christian Death Toll Rises to 200 in 4-Day Muslim ‘Killing Spree’ in Nigeria

By THOMAS D. WILLIAMS, PH.D 30 Jun 2018

The death toll of last weekend’s massacre of Nigerian Christians by militant Muslim Fulani herdsmen has risen to at least 200, according to a report released Friday by Open Doors, an organization that monitors Christian persecution.

As Breitbart News reported earlier this week, heavily armed gunmen recognized as Fulani herdsmen opened fire on Christians in a number of villages in Plateau State of central Nigeria last weekend, killing scores and injuring hundreds more, as well as burning some 50 homes to the ground. Most of the victims were returning home from the funeral of the father of a local Christian minister.

Despite the evidently religious nature of the slaughter, mainstream media chose to downplay the militant Islamism behind the attacks, preferring to attribute the violence to “ethnic tensions,” a “battle for land and resources,” or even “climate change.”

Meanwhile, two local Catholic bishops have called out the violence for what it was: a “clear agenda for Islamizing the Nigerian Middle Belt” by using Fulani shepherds.

One of the bishops, Matthew Ishaya Audu of Lafia, said the attacks are not random or economically motivated, but purposefully target Christians.

“They want to strike Christians,” Bishop Audu said, “and the government does nothing to stop them, because President Buhari is also of the Fulani ethnic group.”

Other observers concur that the attacks form part of a larger plan to eliminate Christians from the area.

“The killings are becoming no longer herder and farmer clashes” but a “deliberate attempt to conquer and occupy the land of the people’s ancestral heritage,” said Dr. Soja Bewarang, while denouncing an attack on a Bible school that trained Christian missionaries in Gana-Ropp village.

Reverend Gideon Para-Mallam, of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students in Jos, said that the violence is part of a pattern, an emerging agenda, which represents “another Boko Haram in disguise.”

The intensity of the attacks in central Nigeria is indicative, Para-Mallam said, “because Plateau state is the epicenter of Christianity.”

The recent “killing spree” lasted four days, Thursday through Sunday evening and into Monday, Open Doors revealed in its report Friday.

During this time, a dozen villages in Nigeria’s Plateau state were reportedly wiped out and on Sunday, 75 of the victims were buried in a mass grave.

Among the victims of the massacre included a local pastor, Rev. Musa Choji, along with his wife and son.

In a single village, Nghar, herdsmen killed over 100 Christians and burned down all the houses, as well as two churches, according to an unnamed pastor of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA).

Assailants killed 14 members of the pastor’s wife’s family, including her mother and sister. In that household, 27 people lost their lives, all of them burned to death, Open Doors said.

On the day of the attack in Nghar, only two soldiers and one policeman were in the village, but they reportedly fled as soon as the herdsmen launched their attack.

Although the anti-Christian violence came to a head over the weekend, in reality it has been going on for some time, according to Pastor Steve Kwol, chairman of the Pentecostal Federation of Nigeria for Plateau North.

Even since the weekend, with a military presence and dusk-to-dawn curfew, the assaults are ongoing, he said. Two more villages—Kwi and Dorowa—were badly damaged on Monday.

Most of the buildings were burned down in Dorowa, including four church buildings, and the adjoining buildings, including pastors’ houses, were also destroyed by fire.

Herdsmen set fire to a number of buildings, including churches, in Kwi as well. The precise number of casualties is unknown, but many villagers were displaced and are now living in camps in neighboring villages.

“We’ve been living peacefully with [Fulani herdsmen]” Pastor Kwol said. “Since this crisis started in Plateau in recent months, our people have not killed one Fulani man. Instead, they have been killing our people one by one. We just buried them and carried on.” he said.

“As a result of the ongoing insecurity, there are places where people can no longer go to farm,” he said, “because when they go, the Fulani will come and take their cows, or attack them.”

“Just two weeks ago, they shot my wife’s young brother. But he survived. He was discharged on Wednesday and had returned home on Thursday, only to get killed in the last attack, on Saturday,” he said.

How Long Before Chinese-made Axon Police Drones Start Killing Americans?

JUNE 28, 2018

By MassPrivateI

Not content with police body cams, Axon formerly known as Taser wants to equip police departments with Chinese-made surveillance drones.

Three weeks ago, Chinese drone manufacturer DJI reported that they are partnering with Axon.

DJI, the world’s leader in civilian drones and aerial imaging technology, and Axon the global leader in connected law enforcement technologies, announced an exclusive partnership, to sell DJI drones directly to public safety and law enforcement agencies worldwide through the new Axon Air program.(Source)

Axon Air wants to provide police with three different types of surveillance drones; the DJI Phanton 4 Pro, DJI Inspire 1, and the DJI Matrice 210. (To find out more about Axon Air drones click here.)

How long will it take Axon and DJI to sell police bird drones that spy on citizens?

Why is Axon and DJI working together to provide law enforcement with surveillance drones you ask?

Surely, it is not to dominate the market and make huge profits that would be crazy.

Last month an article in Ars Techinca revealed that Axon recently acquired VieVu creating a near monopoly in police body cams. An article in The Verge describes Axon’s taser market dominance as“unmatched.”

The same is true for DJI who has a near monopoly in the drone market and has established itself as the market leader in drone sales. An article in Mavic Pilots asks, “Will DJI Spark be the Catalyst for Total Market Domination?”

Stocks soared after Axon and DJI announced their partnership.

So if their partnership is not about creating a police drone monopoly, then what is it for?

It is for “public safety” of course.

“As the requirements and demands of unmanned aircraft programs grow, Axon is partnering with agencies to build out solutions that meet the complexities and requirements of public safety,” says Axon’s EVP of Worldwide Products, Todd Basche.

And just in case you did not believe it the first time, DJI has it covered.

DJI’s Managing Director of North America Michael Perry reiterates Axon’s statement saying, “DJI’s Axon Air partnership will strengthen and enhance law enforcement’s ability to protect public safety, respond to emergencies and save lives.”

Does saying it twice convince you that police drones will be used for public safety?

I mean what could go wrong?

Across the country, law enforcement is equipping drones with weapons like, Tasers, tear gas, sound cannons and much more.

Police want to weaponize drones

Drones equipped with machine guns

Police across the country used 9/11 as an excuse to put machine guns in helicopters, so what’s to stop them from doing the same thing with drones?

Weaponizing police drones is a mistake!

In 2016 a Taser employee showed police leaders how Axon can equip drones with tasers.

Tasers, have already killed more than 1,000 people since 2000. Can you imagine how much those numbers will increase when police start using weaponized drones?

State Rep. Rick Becker warns, “there’s a disconnect with a person sitting in a trailer commanding a drone that can hurt or kill,” he said. “That’s the dangerous, creepy thing about it.”

Why would Axon partner with DJI, the company most often mentioned in press coverage on weaponized drones?

I wonder if police will stick tiny American flags on the sides of drones like countries did when they shot down an enemy plane or wear drone kill patches?

It is only a matter of time before Axon and DJI start selling police drones equipped with weapons that will kill Americans.

Trump administration may seek to detain migrant families longer than previously allowed

(Zoeann Murphy/The Washington Post)

The Trump administration plans to detain migrant families together in custody rather than release them, according to a new court filing that suggests such detentions could last longer than the 20 days envisioned by a court settlement.

“The government will not separate families but detain families together during the pendency of immigration proceedings when they are apprehended at or between ports of entry,” Justice Department lawyers wrote in a legal notice to a federal judge in California who has been overseeing long-running litigation about the detention of undocumented immigrants.

The filing comes as the Justice Departments seeks to navigate two different court edicts — an injunction issued this week by a federal judge in San Diego that required the government to begin reuniting the roughly 2,000 migrant children still separated from their families, and an older court settlement in federal court in Los Angeles that requires the immigration agencies to release minors in their custody if they are held for more than 20 days.

In the weeks since Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a zero-tolerance policy toward immigrants illegally crossing the U.S. border, roughly 2,500 migrant children were separated from their parents. About 500 of those children have since been reunited with their parents.

On Tuesday, U.S. District Court Judge Dana M. Sabraw in San Diego issued a preliminary injunction ordering the government to quickly reunite migrant children with their parents, saying that children separated from their families must be returned within 30 days, and allowing just 14 days for the return of children under age 5.

Under the framework of a previous court settlement in the Los Angeles case, the Department of Homeland Security has followed a general practice of not keeping migrant children in the custody of immigration agents for more than 20 days.

The new filing does not explicitly say the Trump administration plans to hold families in custody beyond the 20-day limit, but by saying officials plan to detain them “during the pendency” of immigration proceedings, which in many cases can last months, it implies that families will spend that time in detention.

The Justice Department argued that while the previous settlement had compelled it to release minors “without unnecessary delay,” the new court order, “which requires that the minor be kept with the parent, makes delay necessary in these circumstances.”

President Trump has demanded an end to what critics call “catch and release” — the practice of releasing migrants from immigration detention, many of whom do not show up later for their court hearings. The administration has said 40,579 deportation orders were issued because foreigners did not appear for their hearing in the last budget year.

Civil rights groups and immigrant advocates are likely to seek additional legal action if migrant families are detained for months. What’s less clear is how the judge in the Los Angeles case, Dolly M. Gee, will view the new approach by the government, and whether she will order it changed.

The filing could spur the judge to approve long-term family detentions. Alternately, the judge may order the administration to release families with monitoring bracelets — though that could provide a political opening for President Trump and other administration officials to blame the judiciary for forcing them to let illegal immigrants into the country.

Leon Fresco, who served as deputy assistant attorney general for the Office of Immigration Litigation in the Obama administration, said officials had always had the ability to hold kids with families past 20 days — if the parents consented to it. But under President Barack Obama, Fresco said, officials felt it would be too cruel to present mothers with a Sophie’s choice between turning their child over to refugee resettlement authorities, or keeping them detained.

The latest filing, he said, indicated that the Trump administration would be at least willing to do that.

“What they want to do is put the choice to the mom, separate or not separate, but make the choice so onerous that there really is no option other than to stay in family detention,” Fresco said.

Matt Zapotosky and Nick Miroff contributed to this report.

Al Gore warns of 'ominous' record-breaking heat

BY JUSTIN WISE -

Former Vice President Al Gore on Saturday issued a warning about Earth's "ominous" record-breaking heat.

"Another ominous record has been set," Gore tweeted, citing a Washington Post article. "The city of Quriyat, Oman, hit an overnight LOW of 108.7 degrees on Tuesday - likely the highest minimum daily temp recorded on Earth. For those suffering from the heat in the U.S. this weekend, be safe and stay cool!"

Gore's remarks came in response to a report from the Post that said the world likely reached it's highest low temperature on record this week. On Tuesday, temperatures in Quriyat, Oman, never dropped below 108.7 degrees over a 24-hour period.

The world's previous hottest minimum temperature was 107.4 degrees, which was set in Oman on June 27, 2011.

Jeff Masters of Weather Underground first reported the findings.

On June 26, the temperature reportedly reached a high of 121.6 degrees, just two degrees below the country's all-time heat record, setting the record for the hottest temperature in June.

The temperature, however, is not official and remains unverified.

Gore, who has been a longtime champion of causes related to climate change, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 for his work.

In November 2017, he said the U.S. could remain in the Paris climate agreement, the international accord that sets standards for dealing with greenhouse gas emissions, if there was a new U.S. president by 2020.

WOLVES ARE THRIVING IN A HUMAN-FREE RADIOACTIVE CHERNOBYL

BY

Humans still aren’t allowed to live in the exclusion zone of Chernobyl, where a nuclear reactor exploded in 1986. Although the radioactivity is dangerous for humans and animals alike, the lack of humans has given some animals an opportunity to thrive.

Wolves in the 2,672 square mile Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in Belarus and Ukraine have adapted surprisingly well to their new human-less existence, despite the threat of radioactivity, a study in theEuropean Journal of Wildlife Research found. They have repopulated the area quickly, enjoying a healthy ecosystem, abundant prey and no humans to shoot them.

Some humans are allowed into the area on a limited basis, such as for tourism and research purposes. The researchers involved in the study fitted 14 gray wolves in the zone with GPS collars to track where they went. They found that the 13 adult wolves stayed close to home, but the one juvenile traveled far away. By the time the GPS collar malfunctioned, that wolf was already 186 miles outside the Exclusion Zone.

After the GPS collar on the juvenile wolf from the Exclusion Zone malfunctioned, scientists were not able to continue tracking it to see if it returned to the place it was from. If not, this animal’s migration could indicate that the zone is a refuge for wildlife that spills over to nearby areas, increasing biodiversity for miles.

Environmental scientists in the past have found that, for wild animals, the negative effect of radioactivity pales in comparison to the positive effect of living without humans. In a study in the journal Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, one team of scientists called the area “ a wildlife preserve.”

The activity and existence of even well-meaning humans have been known to be a detriment to wildlife, and wolves are famously at odds with humans across the world. At one time, millions of wolves roamed North America. But as colonists arrived, they brought with them a fear and distrust of wolves and other predators, launching considerable eradication efforts on the animals. The effort was wildly successful, and today wolves are federally protected under the Endangered Species Act. However, the U.S. agency Wildlife Services killed 357 wolves in 2017, meaning the war isn’t over.
