FBI DIRECTOR: ISIS TENTACLES REACH INTO ALL 50 U.S. STATES

by EDWIN MORA26 Feb 2015

The presence of the Islamic State (ISIS, ISIL) in the United States can be felt in all 50 states, according to the director of the FBI.

FBI Director James Comey told the National Association of Attorneys General that ISIS is a “chaotic spider web” that avidly uses social media to radicalize people across the United States.

“We have investigations of people in various stages of radicalizing in all 50 states,” said Comey, adding, “This isn’t a New York phenomenon or a Washington phenomenon. This is all 50 states and in ways that are very hard to see.”

He made those comments as the FBI arrested three men in Brooklyn, New York for attempting to provide support to ISIS.

Comey said his agency is investigating suspected ISIS supporters who reside in all 50 states.

“Those people exist in every state. I have homegrown violent extremist investigations in every single state. Until a few weeks ago there was 49 states. Alaska had none which I couldn’t quite figure out. But Alaska has now joined the group so we have investigations of people in various stages of radicalizing in all 50 states,” Comey said.

“ISIL in particular is putting out a siren song with their slick propaganda through social media,” the FBI Director added.

In describing the jihadist group’s message, Comey said, “Troubled soul, come to the caliphate, you will live a life of glory, these are the apocalyptic end times, you will find a life of meaning here, fighting for our so-called caliphate. And if you can’t come, kill somebody where you are.”

The FBI director noted that the message “resonates with troubled souls, people seeking meaning in some horribly misguided way.”

Sun Is Extremely Quiet, Scientists Worry We Are Entering Ice Age

Posted by Sean Adl-Tabatabai in

The sun is currently experiencing its weakest solar cycle in over a century according to scientists.

“The sun is flatlining. For the 6th day in a row, solar activity remains very low. No sunspots are flaring, and the sun’s X-ray output has flatlined” says spaceweather.com

Scientists say that if the solar flatlining continues it may be an indication we are about to enter into a mini ice-age.

“The main driver of all weather and climate, the entity which occupies 99.86% of all of the mass in our solar system, the great ball of fire in the sky – has gone quiet again during what is likely to be the weakest sunspot cycle in more than a century,” echoes vencoreweather.com. “Not since cycle 14 peaked in February 1906 has there been a solar cycle with fewer sunspots. We are currently more than six years into Solar Cycle 24 and today the sun is virtually spotless despite the fact that we are still in what is considered to be its solar maximum phase.”

“There have been two notable historical periods with decades-long episodes of low solar activity,” continues vencoreweather.com. “The first period is known as the “Maunder Minimum”, named after the solar astronomer Edward Maunder, and it lasted from around 1645 to 1715. The second one is referred to as the “Dalton Minimum”, named for the English meteorologist John Dalton, and it lasted from about 1790 to 1830.

“Both of these historical periods coincided with below-normal global temperatures in an era now referred to by many as the “Little Ice Age”.

“If this trend continues for the next couple of cycles, then there would likely be more talk of another “grand minimum” for the sun.”

Mysterious comet to be visible from Earth: Space telescope spots unusual comet 'never seen before' as it SURVIVES close encounter with the sun

  • · Scientists say the comet does not fit into any of the known comet families
  • · It grazed past the sun at a distance of 2.2 million miles from the surface
  • · Few comets survive coming that close to the sun, making this one unusual
  • · The comet was seen to develop a tail as solar material erupts from the sun
  • · Scientists say it may become visible from Earth as it continues its journey

Nasa and the European Space Agency's Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, also called SOHO, spotted the comet as it skimmed past the sun.

The is not thought to belong to any known family of comets and scientists have been left baffled as to how it survived its close encounter with the sun.

COMETS ARE LIKE FRIED ICE CREAM

If you've ever bitten into deep fried ice cream, you might have experienced a taste and texture that was out of this world - in more ways than one.

That's because, according to Nasa, the structure of Comet 67P - which Esa's Rosetta spacecraft is currently orbiting - resembles the popular dessert.

In an experiment, they found that while the exterior of a comet is encased in a hard, outer crust, the interior would mostly be fluffy ice.

The scientists said the crust is made of crystalline ice while the interior is colder and porous. Organic molecules like those found on Comet 67P are like a 'final layer of chocolate' on top.

Most comets that come that close do not survive the trip, according to solar scientists who study images beamed back by SOHO.

Yet this comet managed to survive, said Dr Karl Battams, a solar scientist at the Naval Reearch Laboratory in Washington DC.

However, he warned the close encounter with the sun may have taken its toll.

He said: 'There's a half-decent chance that ground observers might be able to detect it in the coming weeks.

'But it's also possible that events during its trip around the sun will cause it to die fairly fast.'

Scientists are now attempting to calculate the path the new comet.

SOHO was initally designed to study the internal structure of the sun and the huge explosions that send the solar wind racing across the solar system.

However, it has also become a major source of comet discoveries as these giant balls of ice and rock light up as they encounter the intense streams of ionized gas that is thrown out by the sun.

Now SOHO has discovered 2,875 comets.

Most belong to the Kreutz family, which all broke off from a single giant comet many centuries ago.

This latest comet, however, does not bear any resemblance to these other comets nor any other family known. Such non-group comets only occur a few times a year.

In a video released by Nasa the comet can be seen appearing on Febuary 19 and taking a huge curving path away from the sun.

Towards the end of the video, as the comet begins to develop a tail, a coronal mass ejection from the sun throws huge amonts of solar material into space.

Dozens dead as Qaeda militants in Syria seize rebel base

Beirut (AFP) - Al-Qaeda's Syria affiliate on Saturday drove US-backed rebels out of a strategic northern military base in fierce fighting that left dozens dead, a monitor said.

At least 29 fighters from the Western-armed Hazm movement were killed along with six Al-Nusra Front jihadists, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

It said fierce fighting had broken out on Friday night for Base 46, west of the city of Aleppo.

"Al-Nusra captured Base 46," said Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Britain-based Observatory.

Base 46 is a sprawling military compound that rebel fighters seized in November 2012 from troops loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

In a statement, residents in the nearby rebel-held village of Atareb criticised the attack on the base and appealed to Al-Nusra to instead fight the "infidel regime and its allies".

The offensive came a month after Al-Nusra -- Al-Qaeda's official affiliate in Syria -- expelled Hazm from Regiment 111, another base they had taken from Assad's forces.

Hazm is mainly present in northern Syria. Last year, it was the first to receive US-made anti-tank missiles from its Western backers.

It is one of a number rebel groups that the United States classes as "moderate". They are loosely branded as the Free Syrian Army.

Syria's conflict began in March 2011 as a popular revolt seeking democratic change, but later evolved into civil war after Assad's regime launched a brutal crackdown on dissent.

About 220,000 people have since been killed in a devastating conflict that has driven half of Syria's population from their homes.
