Out of Focus
Trina L.C. Sonnenberg

I have a question for scholars of the Law of Attraction. I believe in the Law of Attraction, and have seen it at work in my own life. Lately though, I have been having trouble with maintaining a positive attitude.

I keep a gratitude journal, and add to it each day. I use positive affirmations in the mirror, several times a day. When I come upon something that brings a smile to my lips, I pause and give thanks for that which caused me to smile. I make myself available to others who could use my help, with just about everything. I really have much to be grateful for.

Even doing all of those positive actions, negative thoughts slip inside my head, and I am having trouble forcing them back out. Could this be a conditioned response of a problem solver?

I have always been one to take on challenges, and follow through to resolution. I admit, that I am a perfectionist, even though I know that perfection is an illusion of perception. So, when something I perceive is out of order, I tend to focus on resolving the situation. I'm not satisfied until it is closed.

How do I envision the resolution to these challenges that slip past the 'positive only' gate? I have accepted the things I cannot change, I have courage to change the things I can, but I think I sometimes lack the wisdom to know the difference.

Do you ever experience this? What seems to work for you to deal with it?

Trina,

I very much enjoyed your article and thoughts about a popular issue in this world.  I believe this situation comes from trying to take ownership of things not to be owned.  I hope that makes sense.

I believe that the answer to your question is in your thoughts.  For just a short time, focus on what negative thoughts are becoming trapped inside.  Question yourself and ask "what put the thoughts there".  Are they related to the heart?  I have found that when I have a negative thought, it is because I lack love in that area of my life.  I look at how to modify the relationship with love.

Negative thoughts can appear when we process a judgement in absolutes.   As a perfectionist myself, it was hard to allow things to stay imperfect.  I realized that nothing can ever be 100% pefect and accepted a 60% level.  LOL!!!  Believe me that wasn't easy!

One thing that may help you as did for me is to not own the responsibility of keeping things perfect.  If another person fails to do something different than the way you would have done it, don't own what they did.  I could write all day about this, but I must go get some work done.  LOL!!!

Joe
