Whois the Webmaster Here?
8/31/2008 12:19:42 PM
This is how I research a company. At least, this is how I find out who is behind the domain. I do a Whois search on the domain name, to find its owner and contact information. It is an easy task, and takes just a few minutes. You just have to know where to look. Get the Whole Story

Trina,

I have a program called E Verified that does that automatically.  Every time I go to a site, it verifies the owner of the site.

The time is comming when this will be the normal procedure for all domains.  This is being done to eliminate fraud sites.  A person will be able to tell where the site is located and who the owner is.

The Whois is a good place to check, for instant I have the domain name moneypartners.net that I can use to direct to other sites when I need to.  I do not have a web page but this is used mainly for emailing purposes.  This way I can change my ISP and never have to change the email links in my advertisments.

All I have to do is have james@moneypartners.net redirected to which ever ISP I am using.

Good article, Trina!

Another very handy tool is Betterwhois.  When the regular whois tool doesn't give enough information, you can usually get more there.

God bless,

Dave

Great article Trina! Your right. People with stuff to hide are usually trouble and on the NET is a very dangerous place to be if you don't know who you are doing business with. Lately I ran a few ads to sell some auto parts in a online classified (not adlandPro) and got some really shady offers to launder money. Its getting bad on the NET so be careful everyone. Thanks for the valuable information. Forrest.
