Can someone here in the community please explain to me why we must fear the Lord if he is supposed to be my Sheppard and full of love ? Being a believer gets harder and harder sometimes in this day and age and scriptures like this do not help !

Hi Nick,

Maybe fear was the only suitable word they knew back then.  Maybe they meant that we should feel intimidated by the Lord's power or something like that.  God has his hands full with billions of children, think of an overworked Father who has to constantly keep all those kids in line, while also doing His work.  He needs to put forth an intimidating presence or we'll all run amuck, like a bunch of teenagers.  We do that anyway.

Hi my faithful friend Nick, when i think of someone saying, "i'll put the fear of God in you" i think of the dark ages because this is where it came from, when we were oppressed for so many years in egypt, but when the Christ my Rabbi came to life and was sent here for us to know God and his word with signs and gifts that no man could ever imagine of doing, when rabbi Jesus took the teachings he had from God and showed us how God wanted us to live, sight back then to those people were needed i think to show that God was real and had a real love for us, infact God loved us so he gave his Son up for us for our sins that we have committed with His blood, this fear i hope cleares things up for you Nick, that fear of being scared was taken away, but now we have a new kind of fear, a fear out of respect to Him as i have committed my life to Him after i realized im not emmortal lol, the fear of not getting into heaven as God would like all of us to do. And one more important thing is the Grace of God, thank God for Grace, some scriptures you may want to ponder on Nick, 2 Corinthians 5:10- do you feel confident about standing befor the judgment seat of Christ?  There are 110 specific references to the grace of God Nick in the New Testiment and many other times when the concept was alluded to. Its a major biblical them. Acts 14:26- what does grace mean to you? and Acts 20:24- why was the message of Jesus called "the gospel of God's grace?". I hope i did a good job for you Nick, oh and Kathy did a fine job of explaining her views. God_bless you :)

 Zeus Dear Peaceful Nick:

Those of us that believe in the Lord have nothing to fear. Those that do not believe need to be fearful for what is to become of them when they pass or when the Lord comes to take the believers home.

As Helen Steiner Rice Said:

Faith makes it wholly possible to quietly endure the violent world around us for in God we are secure.

Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices; my body also dwells secure. Psalm 16:9

So Today and everyday trust in God with deepened conviction. Ask Him to stay close to you.

Hi Nicky,

I think the word fear is possibly one of the most misunderstood words in the bible.

The word " fear" in that verse has more than one meaning it can mean in the Hebrew it is "yir'âh"and translated into English it can mean : morally, reverence, dreadful, exceedingly, fear (-fulness).

I do not think  folks  have a real understanding of many of the words used and their meanings.

Think about this. When you first come to know G-d did you not first respect him? Did he not bring you to convictions of morals? Did you have have a fear of what he is able to do ? Think about the flood ? Think about Sodom and Gomorrah ?

If we respect and reverence G-d than we should have no fear of him if we do not than we should have an exceedingly dreadful fear of what he can do if he so pleases. He has a personality too let's not forget that either but, that is another subject.

Blessings my friend,

Geketa
