Music: The Language of Spirit – Part 4

03-13-2012-musicBy Wes Annac, The Culture of Awareness

The great thing about music is that we can practice it in whatever way works for us. We don’t have to conform to anything strict or rigid, and no matter how we prefer to play, we can embrace it and use it to elevate our consciousness, inspiring ourselves to take it as far as we can in the process.

For example – you don’t have to be a good singer to embrace music, and whether you sing or play an instrument, all you have to do is diligently practice to get the most out of it. If you aren’t confident in yourself as a singer, maybe you can pick up a guitar, a keyboard or another instrument and practice away.

Singing seems like one of the hardest talents to hone, because in my opinion, singers put themselves out there a little more than people who play instruments. Anyone who plays music obviously puts themselves out there, but singers tend to be subjected to more social pressure.

We don’t even have to play music publicly, and the point of these articles is to provide a glimpse into its massive spiritual benefits instead of its social ones. We can elevate our consciousness by singing, playing an instrument, or even chanting wildly during meditation, and all we have to do is pursue what works for us.

Personally, I’m starting to think I’d benefit more from playing guitar than singing, and every musician will find specific paths that work for them. We don’t have to limit ourselves to one instrument, even if we sing, and if it lights our inner fire, we can pursue multiple instruments and increase our talent (and passion) for all of them.

Sri Chinmoy, our main guide for this series, tells us that listening to spiritual music while we sleep is helpful for the spirit but not as much for the body, which needs pure silence when it sleeps.

Were we to play spiritual music on tape while we slept, would it benefit us in any way?

“While you are sleeping if you play soulful music, your subtle vital, subtle physical and subtle mind will enjoy it.

“But your physical body may find it difficult to appreciate it, for it wants total silence. Although soulful music will add to pure silence, inner silence, the physical body wants a kind of silence which is totally devoid of outer sound.” (1)

Playing a tape softly while we sleep will help our subtle bodies, he tells us, which are constantly active. Playing it loudly can negatively affect the physical body that’s trying to sleep, however, so we’ll want to be careful.

“If you play your tape very softly, it will definitely help and inspire the subtle physical and subtle vital which are not sleeping. Many, many times when the physical sleeps, the subtle physical and the subtle vital do not sleep.

“They move around. They roam here and there. They visit their friends and enemies. My music is definitely a source of joy to them. So for the subtle physical, subtle vital and subtle mind, undoubtedly it is a help. But for the gross physical which is trying to sleep, it may be a hindrance, a disaster.” (2)

We’re also told about the ‘supreme duty’ of the conscious musician, which, as I’ve said before, is to offer their creativity to Source.

What is the supreme duty of an artist or musician?

“The supreme duty of an artist or musician is to meditate before he creates something and, while creating, to be in a very contemplative, divine mood. Then, when the creation is completed, he will immediately offer his creation to the Supreme.

“No matter what others say about his creation, no matter what his feelings are about his own creation, as soon as his creation is completed, he will offer it to the Supreme for Him to use in His own way. This is the supreme duty of the spiritual musician or artist.” (3)

It’s interesting that Sri Chinmoy mentions the importance of offering our creativity to Source, because I recently stumbled upon a very similar revelation. I was worried about something that had to do with my creativity, and I received an intuitive hint not to take it so personally.

Instead of making our creativity so personal and limiting it to what we feel like we can achieve based on our current level of talent, we can offer it to Source and let our divine Mother and Father take care of any lingering doubt.

It’s important to be grounded in the present moment, especially when it comes to creativity, and offering our work to Source is a great way to enjoy it while staying grounded in the Now, instead of taking ourselves out of the Now by worrying about what other people will think.

It helps to remember that we’re here to elevate humanity’s consciousness with creativity and anything else we enjoy, and we’re on this planet on a mission from the Most High to raise the awareness that desperately needs raised before we can bring this world into the light.

Since we’re on such a crucially important mission from Source, we might as well offer our creativity to him/her before we hit the ‘post’ button and send it out into the world.

That way, our creation will be inundated with divine energy and we’ll impact others on a much deeper level than if we would’ve offered it without any energetic input from our creator.

It’s probably obvious by now that creativity is a form of meditation, but it’s only meditative if we keep spirit in mind while we do it. If our thoughts are in a low place, our art will reflect that lowness and the spiritual value we’d otherwise get from it will be diminished to nothing.

Is creativity another form of meditation?

“It depends on what you are creating. If it is spiritual art or music, then certainly it is a form of meditation. But if you play undivine music or write unbearable books or keep your mind in the gutter while you are painting, this is not any kind of meditation.” (4)

We have to pay attention to where we place our consciousness when we’re being creative, he tells us, and our work won’t be very spiritually potent if we don’t keep Source in mind during a session.

“While you are creating, if your consciousness is in the lower vital world, it will not be a form of meditation.

“But if you are singing something soulful or if you are in a very high consciousness while you are creating, if you are giving yourself in a divine way to the object or subject that you are involved with, then definitely you are doing a form of meditation.

“You have to know what you are creating and where your consciousness is while you are doing it.” (5)

Meditation is an essential component to spiritually inspired music, and without it, music might not provide the portal into a higher consciousness that we seek.

“I am giving a lot of importance to aspiring through music. There is nothing wrong if you feel aspiration in your music. But you have to know how many hours you can think of your music.

“If you spend five hours, six hours, seven hours a day on music, then you should spend one hour or two hours, let us say, on spirituality. Music is also a form of spirituality; I do not deny it. But the height that you will achieve from meditation either you may not get or cannot get from your music. Music is an added help.” (6)

Music alone might not get us where we want to go, but if we practice it in conjunction with meditation or other forms of spiritual attunement, it’ll take us deep within and allow us to connect with the sacred self in a way that other forms of creativity fail to do.

Any form of creativity provides a path into a higher state of consciousness, and it’s probably clear that I’m passionate about writing.

Beyond music, I think writing is one of the best ways to connect us with our inner realms and the flowing telepathic expression that takes place there, but it’s also incomplete if we don’t practice it along with meditation.

I’m getting the intuitive hint that as long as we stay creatively and spiritually active, it really doesn’t matter what we do. We can embrace music and play our hearts out, or we can embrace writing and write our hearts out.

As long as we remember how crucial meditation is to the sustainment of our greater connection with spirit, we can use any creative avenue we want to raise awareness and inundate the world with the love and spirituality that seem to have dried up.

In all things, our dedication and where we place our thoughts are important, so let’s remember to enjoy our creativity, practice it with meditation and offer it to Source – especially when we don’t feel like it’s good enough.

Anything and everything is good enough for Source, and we’re infinitely accepted by our creator. All we have to do is open up and realize it, and everything else will start to fall into place.

Sincere spiritual seekers might feel ‘miserable’ if they don’t play spiritual music or play their music in accordance with meditation.

“If you can play spiritual music, soulful music, then you will have no problem in your life.

“But if you play only mundane music, then you may not be satisfied. You may be pleasing the outer world, but you are not pleasing your Inner Pilot in His own way. If you are not an aspiring seeker, that is fine. But if you are a sincere seeker, then you will feel miserable.” (7)

If we want to use music to elevate our consciousness, it’s essential that we write and play things that appease our need for a deeper level of awareness.

Music that’s hollow or spiritually dead won’t do much for us, whereas music that’s filled with the spirit will satiate that relentless thirst and allow us to uplift others in the process, provided we play publicly.

Credit: Fanpop.com

We don’t have to play it for other people, but if we do, we’ll uplift ourselves and everyone else who’s in need of the higher vibration our creativity can provide.

As always, there’s still a lot to say about the spiritual value of music and we’ll pick this discussion back up another time.

I’m sure there’ll always be something to say about music’s spiritual properties and its potential to uplift us and the rest of the world, and as we’ve learned, all we have to do to feel its true effects is play from the heart.

It also helps to believe in ourselves and our power to use our creativity to awaken and uplift the world, and when we can finally empower ourselves, everything else will follow suit.

Golden Gaia News Roundup: April 6, 2015

news roundupGreetings, beloveds! Feeling free and excited to start this spring season on the right foot …then the left foot …then the right …then the left –hey, I’m walking here! Thank you, Lindsey and Alex, for your postings over the last few days –enjoy your break.
Happy Monday.

Politics & Human Rights: When will prejudice end?

I’ll be the first to admit: In the year 2015, I’m saddened and disheartened that hurtful prejudice people still exist. Ironically, it’s our differences that make this world great. Who would truly like everything to be vanilla and monotonous?

For that matter, who would want everything purple with green polka dots, without variation? If the whole world was purple with green polka dots, then its uniqueness is no longer. Now, everyone’s the same! Yikes.

I very much appreciate this wonderful adage: “Variety is the spice of life!” I believe I’d be bored out of my mind if we all looked the same, talked the same, dressed the same, had the same hobbies and vocations …”blah” is my professional and mature reaction. :-)

I’m certain most of us can recall when we were “tweenagers” on a lazy summer afternoon (too big to get on the small rides and too old to enjoy the privileges of a kid, yet too young to have more freedoms like a teenager), and we slumbered over to mum, dad or grandmum and harrumphed, “I’m sooo bored. There’s nothing to do!”

Now, just imagine being at such an apathetic and disempowered place (as a kid or adult), and then continuing with your day hanging with your friends who play the same games, have the same interests, eat the same food as you do. Mama mia …such doldrums.

Let’s face it: We need not agree with how our fellow brothers and sisters spend their own time. Yet, truthfully, as long as they are not hurting others nor themselves, it’s none of our business what other people do. Seriously… to each their own. Live and let live.

Quite honestly, we ALL have our own biases. By definition, a bias is something that we have been exposed to most, if not all, of our lives. In fact, biases and prejudices are many times unconscious. And yet, that does not make them okay, right? Furthermore, biases and prejudices need not be “wrong.”

In other words, we all were raised a certain way, which develops and creates our own biases. That’s natural. That’s normal. That’s human –favoring the ways, principles, or lifestyles in which we were raised. There’s nothing “wrong” with each of our own lifestyles (given we are not harming anyone, please remember).

The problem only surfaces when we start telling others what to do, or telling others that their lifestyles, or personal and familial characteristics or choices, are bad and wrong. No one has the right to judge others.

Unconditional love and acceptance of everyone is one of our primary goals (if not, our only goal) here upon our beloved Earth School, and if it were easy to do, then everyone on the planet would be doing it and we’d be living in a drastically better world!

Thanks for allowing me the room to prep this next story regarding the governor of Indiana, who’s been receiving much backlash for his anti-gay statements. Tying my prep work with this story… his belief that he’s not a fan of the gay lifestyle is his own business. He’s not wrong for his belief (albeit, closed-minded and closed-hearted, but he’s not “wrong”)… but he surely needs to keep this view to himself. The problem surfaces when he, or anybody, judges others, and especially when they verbalize such judgments.

My mum used to tell me, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.” Words to live by, especially in a world of diversity …especially when we should be celebrating diversity rather than condemning it.

While Governor Mike Pence directly voiced he will not push for gay rights protection, the backlash from the community-at-large was able to get the State of Indiana to change their tune, as evidenced by State House Speaker, Brian Bosma, to publicly express they value people from all walks of life. I AM most grateful for their change of heart and desire to step up and honor every person’s orientation and lifestyle choices.

“The one thing that is evident from this entire episode is that ALL politicians are still malleable when the business community is galvanized to act. What does this mean for middle-class centric activism in the short term? It seems that more must be done to force our businesses to engage our politicians on other issues lest they feel our wrath. In the long term we must ensure politicians ultimately answer to the people and not solely to business interests and corporations. This does not mean simply voting, but voting engagingly and smartly.”

Indiana Legislature Bucks Governor Mike Pence on his LGBT Stance by Egberto Willies. Daily Kos.

Politics & Human Rights: People have the power… Now we must live it!

Wowie zowie! This next story is a direct result of the anti-gay environment in some parts of Indiana –sad but true.

“‘If a gay couple came in and wanted us to provide pizzas for their wedding, we would have to say no,’ O’Connor told local affiliate ABC 57. ‘We are a Christian establishment. We’re not discriminating against anyone, that’s just our belief and anyone has the right to believe in anything,'” says Crystal O’Connor of Memories Pizza, Walkerton, Indiana.

Consequently, Memories Pizza has closed its doors due to public outrage of threatening calls and online posts. Damn, that’s some instant karma, now isn’t it? Memories Pizza is discriminating against people, and in turn interestingly, other people are now discriminating against them –the Universal Law of Attraction in all its glory working perfectly as it was intended. To what we give our energy and attention (discriminating against people), is what we shall receive in return (being discriminated against): Law of Attraction …poetic justice.

Also, please notice O’Connor’s level of awareness. She states that they’re NOT being discriminatory, and that it’s their right to hold any beliefs they so choose. “Yes, Christie (O’Connor), you do have the right to your own personal beliefs of being against the LBGT lifestyle –no qualms there. And yet, this belief of yours must stay with you since your judgment of others is hurtful,” I reply to her as if she’s standing right next to me.

In my perspective, this is where O’Connor is completely missing the boat. Her statements are not only hurtful toward others, but she is totally unaware that her beliefs are hurtful toward others –when verbalized publicly. Funny enough, where she really has enough rope to hang herself (in my opinion) is that she has the expectation that she should be respected and that her beliefs should by honored by others.

Therein lies the tricky part. Yes, of course, from a theoretical and objective place, her views –and everyone’s views– should be honored and respected, but from a practical and ethical standpoint, it’s very hard to do so. “Why?” you ask. Simply because she is not giving respect, which by definition, the Law of Attraction states that she will not receive it either.

As a natural social reaction, the public is turned off by her outspoken bigotry and created judgments about who she is as a person, to the point of protesting her business forcing her to close her retail doors. I recall mentioning in the above previous story about the outspoken Indiana governor who is also prejudice toward the LGBT community: It’s important to keep such views to yourself, especially if they 1. judge other people, and 2. if they hurt other people.

“Funny how when you trumpet to the world that you’re going to discriminate against people, you get an overwhelming negative response—even if you try to claim it’s not discrimination. And we the people have the right to respond accordingly on the internet and never frequent your business again. The hand of justice in the age of social media has never been swifter.”

How true it really is: We, the people, have the power. We always did, and we always will. Even though our governments have been most successful in coercing us to give up our power to them. They are overwhelmingly sly and cunning, resulting in us effectively surrendering our innate God-given sovereign rights and freedoms to the 1%.

In contrast, do you see how quickly the public, us…all of us, when banding together for a worthwhile and common goal can immediately produce change?! It’s amazing. It’s fantastic. It’s so damn exciting to see the power we wield –for the betterment of humankind, of course.

If we can shut down this pizzeria in no time flat, then we can shut down the parts of our world which no longer serve us… in no time flat. We simply need to unite. Easier said than done …or is it?

Did I mention cunning and sly? This is why our governments created erroneous and imaginary borders (that only exist on maps) to manipulate us into believing that people in America are fundamentally different than people in Canada …or than people in Africa… or than people in China. No, that’s a lie.

Yes, we have some differences in livelihood and agreeing on what’s important, but that is all superficial when looking at what people –of every nation– want: To prosper, to laugh, to love, to be in peace. “Unity Consciousness” means we must unite. The 99% can, will, and are reclaiming our world.

Indiana Pizzeria that Said They’d Discriminate Against Gays Now Closing Due to Backlash by Faith Gardner. Daily Kos.

If your world is particularly stressful –as most of ours are right now– please remember that this too shall pass!
Across this beautiful world, We Are All One.

Heavenletter #5245 via Gloria Wendroff: Miracles That God Has Wrought

Heavenletters - Version 2God said:

Tell Me, is there a moment of life that is not a miracle? This moment, for instance, as I commune with Myself called you, is this not a miracle appearing?

Here, with Our hearts and minds, We commune as if We are two when We have never been anything but One. Of course, you appear as a human being in a costume called a body. Right now as I appear as you, you are, in a sense, out of your body. I can say that We are having an out-of-body experience, for your body, the form you carry, isn’t present here with Us now.

It is your heart and mind, mostly the heart, that you commune with and that I also commune with as My One Self. And, oh, yes, there is soul which has no costume whatsoever. Your mind could fake, possibly your heart could fake with so-called others yet not with Me. You cannot even conceive of stretching Truth or gilding the lily with Me.

I wanted to talk about miracles, a hundred-thousand miracles a day. Isn’t it a miracle that you gather a body around you altogether that can be said to appear? That you can sit down or stand up? What on Earth exists but miracles? You can also sit up. You can stand down. You can grow. There are bicycles, and you can ride them.

You can read books, and you can write them.

You can imagine. You can remember, and you can forget.

You can have upsets. You can be furious one moment, and love the next.

You can laugh. You can cry. You can make sounds. You can make speech with your heart, mind, and tongue.

You can love the heat, and you can love the cold. You can sweat, and you can shiver.

How did I create such wonders that you take in your stride? I did indeed create wonders that amaze Me. I cannot think of one thing that I created that isn’t a marvel. If I were told – by whom I have no idea – to undo one design out of more than billions that I created, what could I choose? What could I remove? What of My Creation could I possibly do differently?

There are many mansions in My Kingdom, yet not one would I remodel or redecorate. What tiny hair could I remove from My Creation that might not serve as a fulcrum and the rest could come tumbling down? Yes, of course, there are natural safety-measures built in, yet who would fool around with the Beauty that actually created itself at My Desire for a world made of Myself for Myself in the guise of you and in which you dwell?

You may forget to look at the sky and the sun and the sunlight between leaves on any tree. You may forget to gaze at the moon’s luster, yet you absorb the moonlight just the same.

You may not know how to savor life, and yet you live it.

You play certain roles in life, and you play them well, yet you are unaware of the important role you play. You may think you are a comic, yet you do not laugh. You may be a drama-queen, and yet you laugh. You may be what the world calls shiftless, and you may be a hero. You are not a fish, and yet you swim. You may fly yet not with wings of your own.

Family and friends may not really know who you are. You may not know who you are. I know Who you Are. One day you will look up and see for yourself the miracle I made when I wrought you.
