RSS ("Really Simple Syndication" or "RDF Site Summary"
depending on who you ask) is an easy way to get the news you want whenever it
is updated even if you are not on our Community. This service allows you to
receive regular updates from your Community and deliver them directly to your
desktop news reader.
To respond to a message in a discussion topic or post a new one, you will still
need to login to your Community account.
There are several ways to access RSS feeds. You can install
a news reader or aggregator that collects and displays RSS feeds from the Web
sites you select. Like an email program or a Web browser, the news reader
serves as a kind of information portal, and provides a real-time interface to
the feeds you select. RSS news readers allow you to view the service you select
all together in the same place and, by automatically retrieving updates, stay
current with new content soon after it is published.
There are many different news readers available, many for free. Most news
readers are applications that you download and install. Some others are
web-based service you sign-up for that work inside your browser. A number of
free and commercial news readers are available for download. Popular news
readers include
SharpReader,
RSS Bandit,
Feed Demon. Check the
list of RSS News Readers.
If you are browsing the Internet using
FireFox you can download extensions to view the news in your browser.
Most popular are
Sage,
Habari Xenu,
Wizz RSS News Reader and
infoRSS.
After installing the news reader, you can add each feed manually from the
Community site by clicking on the "RSS" orange button (

)
on the page you want to subscribe and copy the RSS Feed address to the
appropriate place in your News Reader.
