I think a lot about me has been said on my web page.
I basically gave up a very good career twelve years ago to look after my son, after he was born with a condition so rare there are only twelve cases of it in the world.
As a single parent my time is now devoted to my children and helping other carers.
One thing I found when I began caring was that I very soon become socially isolated. All my time was suddenly devoted to caring for him. It was only when he was well enough to go to school that I realised I very rarely went out socially anymore.
Thats really what prompted me to start looking on the internet to see what resources there were for people like me. I was suprised to find very few indeed. Since I started working in my local community with other carers my life has changed dramatically, I now have a whole new circle of friends and the best part about it is we all have something in common. We have carers as young as 10 years of age looking after loved ones, and its the loved ones that sometimes burden a lot of guilt. Thats why our website is open to everyone.
