I answered phones for FEMA during Hurricane Katrina. There was one very important thing that people did not think about when preparing for a hurricane.

A telephone.

Many people lose power during a hurricane; as well as, celephone signals. But, many times the phone service is still available. Most phone cables are below ground and not subject to the loss of service as power is.

Be sure you have a direct line plug in phone (that doesn't require electricity) or one that opperates on batteries. It can save your life. Please be prepared so you can call for assistance when you need it.
