My Hometown, Spearman, Texas

Howdy Ya'll!

I would like to share with you about the town I grew up in.  Spearman, Texas.  Spearman is located right in the top middle of  the panhandle of Texas.  There are no major roads that go there, so if you go through Spearman, you probably were lost! Smiley  Or maybe someone special lived there you were going to see!

I moved to Spearman when I was 2 and stayed until I graduated High School.  We were the proud Spearman Lynx!  When I was growing up, the town was booming because there was gas fields there.  A whopping 3500 people!!!!!  There were a total of about 350 in our high school, and I graduated with the largest class ever of 96 students!!  Note:  44 of us started kindergarten together!!!  Lots of "brothers and sisters!"

Spearman is very flat.  Some days you can see for 30 miles.  There is farming and ranching, and at one time Hansford County was the second richest county in Texas because of natural gas.  Since the boom times ended, there are about 2500 people there now.

I love the farming community.  I remember watching the grain in the field blow in the wind (which blows EVERY day), and it truly gives meaning to the "Amber Fields of grain" we sing about in the National Anthem.  There is a quiet beauty about it.

A man from our town had collected windmills of all types on his farm.  Recently the town people got together and brought them to town and placed them in a park.  It is really neat!

Hope you will visit my home town, Spearman, Texas at www.spearman.org

Sunny Greetings from the Central Valley of California to the Panhandle of Texas, DD!

Thank you so much for sharing some information about your hometown, Spearman, with us.

I love what you wrote:

I took a virtual tour of Spearman. I really enjoyed learning about your hometown. I like the fact that Spearman is a farming community and that it has low crime rate. It also is a dairy friendly community.

I hope to visit your hometown in person soon.

Again, I value your friendship and support, DD.

More Sunny Greetings from California, D D!

I went back to visit the website of Spearman Chamber of Commerce and found the following statements about the town that I think are very interesting:
..the crime rate is so low it is not even a topic for discussion.
...children can SAFELY play outside or walk downtown for a soda.
... there is only one traffic signal in town.

...you can drive to work in five minutes or less.
...the keys to your potential are more important than the keys to your house. [What a great line!]
...you can participate in your children's school activities during your lunch or coffee break.
I notice that you are expecting thunder storms and possible heavy rain tonight and tomorrow. Can you send some of that our way? We're in a drought.

I'll take another virtual tour of Spearman soon.

Have an Awesome Weekend!
