What Motivates People to Change?
Posted: Aug 13 2007 07:53 AM

For today's topic, I would like to ask you a very
serious question:

 1. What is it that motivates you to change?

 2. What is it that motivates you to change the
    circumstances you are currently facing?

If you ask a smoker to changes his 10 year long habit
and not smoke anymore for the rest of his life, it
would be almost impossible. Unless something drastic
happened in their own life.

Maybe because one of the friends passed away from
lung cancer. Maybe because they don't want to
see their own children follow in their footsteps.

Until something DRASTIC happens in their life,
that causes PAIN change is UNLIKELY to take place
in their life.

How can we change this pattern?

How can we motivate ourselves for big change in our
finances, health, or even reltionships with our
spouses?

The secret is... "It REQUIRES an extreme effort".

This means that you MUST completely abandon your OLD
HABITS and start with a 180 degree different approach
looking into what it is you want in your life.

This is WHY you need someone to support you physically
and mentally to get what you truly want in life. If
NOT, change will be very difficult.

Go ahead and do yourself a favor.  Ask yourself the
following:

 A. Who are the people in your life that love you and
   want to see you grow?

 B. Who are the people in life who are willing to do
whatever it takes to see you achieve what you want
   in life?

 C. Who are the people in your life who would like to
make the same changes you are making in your life?

Identify them. Tell them the changes you want to make.
Ask them for their support. Create a support group.
Network with them. Take your life to the next level.

This is how you grow.
This is how you are able to achieve success in your life.

Today...

What a great question Terry. And a fabulous answer to it. Building up a support network of people who hold you to a higher standard is a good way to go about it.

I think change in and of itself is a simple process and becomes as easy or difficult as we like to make it. I know at one point in my life I got really 'serious' about change and that's what my life became  ... very serious!

When I finally stuck my head up and had a look around me at the people I admired, I realized they were having a heap more fun than me. When I took the time to look at the them honestly I realized that not everything went perfectly for them either and they seemed to be having a lot more fun than I was.

It was then I realized that how I viewed change was a decision and how easy it was, was a decision and having fun was a decision too. The amazing thing has been that since I made that decision my life has done a complete turnaround in so many ways.

That's not to say I don't slip back into old habits. What I've done is developed some questions which reframe my thinking. And what has happened for me now is I'm far more aware of how I'm feeling and because I don't like how the old habits feel I'm much quicker at doing something about it. And because I do something about it, it doesn't last as long.

I've also now put onto the market a product I created to help me keep my head in a good space. You sound like you're as interested in this stuff as I am. I'd love you to take a look at my site when you have a moment and let me know what you think. There might be some ways we can work together.

Thanks for the great post. Love life and live it creatively.

Leanne
