"To Err is Human to Forgive is Divine"
2/21/2008 12:06:34 PM

Can you forgive when someone hurts you?

To forgive is a very difficult thing to do. We

are most like our God when we forgive. God is willing to forgive us if only we will ask.

FORGIVEN

By  Dean Beaty  2/20/08

We had a debt we could not pay,

Yet still it grew from day to day.

And then we heard these words from heaven,

“My erring child you are forgiven.”

Oh blessed day my souls set free.

Gone are my fears of penalty.

Gone too the stain of sin’s disgrace,

To stand before Him face to face.

I hear him say while they revile,

“Father, forgive this erring child.”

“They do not know just what they do.”

His love was sent to these men too.

If God forgives so full and free,

Should it not be for you and me?

To give someone a touch of heaven,

And say to them, “You are forgiven.”

Hi Dean,

The poem was lovely, thank you for sharing this with me.

I have been able to forgive a couple of people for the abuse they put me through in my lifetime.  But I am only human, and have not been able to forget, what it was they did to me.

Does this mean that although I was able to utter these words, that maybe deep within my heart, I have not fully forgiven them?

Blessings,

Beryl

Dear Beryl,

Thank you for your kind words.

It is very nearly impossible to forget significant events but when forgiven the recollection of these events will not make us anxious or angry.  They become just a part of our past and are less important to us in time.

The closer you are to the event itself the more it will be on your mind but the act of forgiveness will cause it to fade.  Dean.

My experience also is that Satan or our old nature will cause an event to be brought up in our mind again in a negative way.  When this happens I need to pray asking God to help me have the right attitude. Gladys

Sincerely,

Dean & Gladys

I am not what you would call politically correct but I hope this forum will be unique in being conservative and God's word will always be honored and lifted up as our only standard for our faith and practice.  I also hope our forum will always be able to be read by anyone from a child on up.  We do not know who might read our words. My purpose is not to put down but to uplift.  My parents taught me that swearing is a weak mind trying to express itself strongly not a criteria or showing one to be an adult.

I hope I have not been offensive in any way.  The Bible uses the word you used as a donkey but this is not the way you intended.
