UNBELIEVABLE SCAM ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1/10/2008 11:03:45 AM
Hi guys! I just got this from my mother. Take a look at this and beware!!!!!!!!! I thought I would pass thisgood information on. Jury Duty Scam DO NOT DELETE WITHOUT READING ! This has been verified by the FBI (their link is also included below). Please pass this on to everyone in your email address book. It is spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us take those summonses for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty, that a new and ominous kind of fraud has surfaced. The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and bingo; your identity was just stolen. The fraud has been reported so far in 11 states, including Oklahoma , Illinois , and Colorado . This (swindle) is particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they are with the court system. The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud. Check it out here: http://www.fbi.gov/page2/june06/jury_scams060206.htm And here: http://www.snopes.com/crime/fraud/juryduty.asp CAN YOU BELEIVE THAT!!!!! affraid Always, _________________ Dawn

Wow Dawn!

That's just plain NASTY!

I know it's difficult sometimes to spot these guys, they have become very clever in disguising themselves.
I get regular messages saying that my Chase Manhatten account is in peril (and I laugh because I'm in Canada and certainly don't have an account there)
but then a message comes in with MY BANK'S header, and I get a bit nervous right away.

However knowing what I know and knowing what to look for, my fears are quickly dissapated. There are certain things that Banks or other similar institutions will NEVER do, and asking for this personal info is never done over email, nor by phone, nor should you EVER give out that info.

If your still pressed by someone to reveal your personal info and rather than breaking this Golden Rule, tell them that you will come down to the bank or to the courthouse to confirm and if necessary any information in person.

NEVER GIVE IT OVER THE PHONE OR INTERNET!

Be safe people :-)

Very True and words to the wise.  I always get those emails from various banks and paypal etc.  I never click the link but call my bank and paypal personally.  I just cannot believe how very wise they have gotten by preying on people's fear to intimidate the information out of them.  So shocking!

always,

Dawn
