The Purpose of Christmas

Luke 2:11-12 “For unto you is born this day

in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe

wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”(KJV)

What is the purpose of Christmas today?

Is it the thrill of the big give-away?

A child's wide eyes is always a joy.

For sis a new doll, a train for the boy.

Is that the purpose that we celebrate?

Is that all there is for this winter date?

Where does Christ figure in your Christmas time?

That He's overlooked, to me is a crime.

This is the time to reflect on God's Son.

Our gift from the Father which can't be outdone.

No greater gift could God ever give;

Than His only Son just so we might live.

God's gift has been offered, now its up to you.

Have you received Him and been born anew?

But not only Christ is the gift of God's love;

There's a home evermore in heaven above.

This Christmas could be the greatest of all,

If you would but heed the dear Savior's call.

Ask His forgiveness for all of your sin.

Believe in His promise that He will come in.*

* Revelation 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock:

if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in

to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”(KJV)

John 6:37 “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me;

What You Need for Christmas

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God

is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (KJV)

Will your needs be met beneath your Christmas tree?

Will you join the children in happy youthful glee?

No matter what the gift, in love or cost or size,

Your greatest need of all will not be realized.

You don't need two front teeth, a ring, a truck or gun.

These maybe what you want to produce a lot of fun.

What you need is Christ - don't look beneath your tree.

You can only find Him at the foot of Calvary.

This gift will never come from your husband or aunt Maud.

This greatest gift of all comes from the heart of God.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son.”

So death, that came by sin, by His blood could be undone.

God's law demands atonement. Christ's blood became the price.

So HE who knew no sin, became your sacrifice.

Christ is the only way to be free from sin and shame.*

This cleansing can be yours if you'll call on Jesus' name.

*John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life:

no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (KJV)

Christmas means so much to us
in so many different ways
for some it is the joy of Santa
for some Love and Birth of Jesus
for some it means both
to others it is a stressful time
a very sad time filled with loss
of family gone or far away
to some it is a time of joy
a time of giving and receiving
a time of bright lights and
snow and happy little tunes
warm by the fire with loved ones
around, laughing and loving.
However Christmas finds you this year,
may it be filled with lots of good cheer!
