Greetings All Well, there is more uncertainty facing the Westberry family now. It must be very difficult for them. Especially with all the traveling they have do.. I know I have brought this up before but maybe we will have better luck this time.. I would like to have some sort of a fund raiser for this family. the expense involved in traveling to NYC and to Duke Medical Center for tests and treatment must be over whelming. For those of you who are following this forum,, how about spereading the word to your friends lists that we need some help here.. I would really like to do something for this family. Lets see if we can get a few donations from this community to help them out..Write back here if you are interested in helping,My Story Welcome to the Caring Bridge site for Elizabeth Westberry. We will keep you all informed about her condition. http://www.embracingelizabeth.com 10-09-08-Elizabeth has experienced a widespread relapse. She is in treatment again and in need of prayers please. As of October 2007 Elizabeth has no evidence of cancer! We thank God and pray that she stays this way. So here is the short update: MIBG scan today shows a spot on the top of Elizabeths skull! It is not the same spot as the "lump" we saw. Dr. Modak says he thinks it could be an area where she bumped her head??? We are trying to get an MRI of her head schedules back home. They had her scheduled for one this evening here in NY, but after she had another SEVERE episode with sedation, they felt it would be best if we give her a break and do the scan at home ASAP. Problem is, for WFU, ASAP is August 25th!!! So, I am on the phone right now with Duke to get her scheduled for the scan there ASAP. WE will keep you posted. We ask for prayers that this spot is NOTHING...and that she can get scans soon. WE signed consent forms for 3F8 today!!! If the spot is nothing, we will start 3F8 on August 17th...if the spot turns out to be NB, we have to do more chemo and or radiation before starting 3F8. There is so much more to say...but we have to go catch a flight out of NY now. Thanks for the prayers and support! Westberry Tribe Read Journal

Hi BillDaddy,

OMG!!   My heart so goes out to the Westberry family and little Elizabeth.  They have been on such a roller coaster ride, it does not seem fair.  I know nothing is fair, but.......   I can only think it.

I WILL CONTINUE TO SAY PRAYERS for them all, and thank you so much for keeping this thread going.

I have missed you and hope you are doing well.  It makes me feel better to see you posting, and I AM SAYING PRAYERS FOR YOU as well.

Love and hugs,   Jill

Hello Jill Thank You for your kind words, thoughts and prayers. You are in mine also. Yes,, this family has been through so much that i have to wonder how they do it. through it all their faith has never wavered. Their love for each other has grown stronger. the Westberry family could serve as an example to other families that are facing hardship. I know that I am inspired by them. I wish that we could do more to help this family here. You are about the only one who still comes to this thread anymore. The fund raiser idea went over like a lead baloon. I guess with the economy the way it is, it is hard to inspire people to do things like that. Well, at least there are still a few of us praying for elizabeths recovery. There are people who visit this forum who don't post too so that is reassuring. So, I know that there are more people sending their love and blessings than it looks like. I appreciate all of you,,,even those who don't post.. Thanks again Jill. See you on the Mountain

Greetings All Well,,, our little friend is having to undergo yet more painful treatments and proceedures. She has been through so much it is hard to imagine how she tolerates it all.. The whole family has endured more than any family should ever have to endure. Their faith remains unchallenged. through it all, their love for each other has grown stronger. Please put an extra effort into your prayers now so that this little girl can continue to find the strength to go on. Pray for her comfort and that she feels no more pain. She has been through just an unbelievable amount of pain already. Please get your friends and family to send their prayers and healing light as well.. Here is an interesting article on the effects of prayer. An exerpt from the article and the link to the rest of the story. You may find this quite interesting The results of the study are not surprising to those of us who believe in the power of prayer. The patients who had received prayer as a part of the study were healthier than those who had not. The prayed for group had less need of having CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) performed and less need for the use of mechanical ventilators. They had a diminished necessity for diuretics and antibiotics, less occurrences of pulmonary edema, and fewer deaths. Taking all factors into consideration, these results can only be attributed to the power of prayer. http://www.plim.org/PrayerDeb.htm My Story Welcome to the Caring Bridge site for Elizabeth Westberry. Read My Story See All Photos .Journal Saturday, August 15, 2009 5:10 PM, EDT I want to receive Journal update notification e-mails. We will be heading to NYC Sunday. Elizabeth will start 3F8 on Monday. So far she has done pretty good with the GMCSF shots. She has to get poked every day for 10 days surrounding this treatment...she is so brave. Today she is feeling very tired. We are not sure if fatigue is a side effect from the GMCSF, or if she is just tired? My friend Tommy, who updated the journal for me last time, cut off about 2 ft of his hair and I "think" he gave it to locks of love! What a great thing to do. The kids start school in about a week. We are having a problem with the school district wanting to send Chris to a different high school because of a re-districting issue. He has already been practicing with the football team, got his position, uniform the whole 9...now they want to send him to a different school that does not even have a JV football team. We are working hard right now to get them to make an ecxeption in his case...he has been through enough without being made to go to a new school away from his friends and team mates. We are praying that Elizabeth tolerates the new treatment. It is very difficult...and hard to make a child understand why they must endure such painful treatments for so long...but that is another update I guess? Well,,, elizabeth has undergone the first of this round of treatment. As expected,,, it is very painful. Please pray for her during this time of recieving these treatment.Pray that she may be comforted and pain free. One cannot imagine what this must be like unless they have personal experience with it. I see that a local church is doing a fundraiser to help this family with expenses. there is a link for donations on their site so even if we weren't able to organize a fundraiser here, some of us can still contribute. I am sure that it will be very much appreciated. I want to receive Journal update notification e-mails. I forgot something VERY imprtant in the last update: Thank you to our friends at Germanton Baptist Church for their generousity, love and support. It is a small, community and Christ centered church filled with caring people. The money they are collecting for our family will help us more than they know! I am pasting the update from a few minutes ago below: Hello from NYC! The first round of 3F8 is complete. Elizabeth did fantastic!!! The pain did overtake her for a while, but after a dilaudid rescue she is sleeping peacefully. At one point she got a little scared...due to difficulty breathing. It is common for hive to form in the mouth or throat (from what we were told) but after some meds/oxygen her levels are normal again. We are not sure what she will feel like after she wakes up...but she is very tough! When she stirs from sleep, we can see her face...it tells us that there is discomfort. These poor babies up here go through so much more than ANY of us will ever know. Thanks for the prayers, Westberry Tribe Read Journal GuestbookGuestbook signed 6 times today.
