Money management and “back to school.”
8/1/2007 6:06:47 AM

Some business minded parents, guardians or their friends will be sending kids "back to school" this August all over the world. Even if you are not one of the parents involved in this annual “ritual” as some call it, here is some interesting reading and information quoted below for your attention:

“Back-to-school survival tips”

Every family has their own back-to-school ritual — including everything from a one-stop trip to the mall on the first day of school to a raid of the office-supply cabinet at work. There are pencils to sharpen, new shoes to be bought and books to cover.

…So much of back-to-school shopping is a part of our culture, with online shopping seeking to change some of that tradition.

….Kids also see back-to-school as a fashion statement. In a world of rows of desks and lockers, their supplies are one of their few personal statements.

From their binders to their backpacks, the Web doesn't do a very good job of showing the details…And, until Web sites get better about showing detail (those sites that describe every binder and backpack in height, width and depth measurements leave me clueless), kids are going to want to go to the store.

But back-to-school shopping on the Web can be helpful in certain instances. Here's the survival guide.

 “Rules of Survival:”

1. Order bulk supplies on the Internet.

2. Your best buys will come from traditional suppliers with online stores and price guarantees.

3. Shop online if your school is "on the wired plan."

4. Shop to benefit your local school.

5. Shop for bundles of savings.

6. Use the Web for hard-to-find items.

7. Use the Web to control the "I gotta have it" trendy stuff.

8. Buy review and reference books online.

We are often reminded to be careful about where we shop, over spending and not getting great bargains. As such, we are best adviced to go where we feel most comfortable and know we will get what we want.
