Need suggestions for a great vacation
4/19/2007 11:23:18 PM

Hi!

I'm trying to plan a vacation for a family of 4 that consists of a 12 year old and a toddler who will be 18 months by travel time.

I'm at a loss for things a toddler that young.  Expected travel dates are in July.  So far I've set aside the first week of July, but I may need to change it.

Please help!  I'll consider all suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

To whom it may concern,

This is kind of a broad question.  I must know where you are traveling from and how far you would like to go.  For instance, if you are on the west coast, do you want to travel to the east coast and vice versa?  Do you want to go out of country?  I will rattle off a few suggestions.

On the East coast of the US, I recommend most of, but not all the Delaware beaches, Ocean City, MD, Virginia Beach Virginia or the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  There are many area to go in these places that are family oriented.  Virginia Beach has the most attractions though.  Around there, there is Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown settlement and Busch Gardens.  However, ther is not much for a toddler to do in Busch Gardens.

On the west coast, Mendocino, CA is a quaint town in the heart of redwood country.  It is also right on the shore.  If you get tired of the beach, you can take a great ride through the redwood forest.  Avenue of the Giants (a road much like the Skyline Drive in Virginia) is not a far drive.  It winds through the redwoods.  If you are into camping, there are a lot of places to camp in the area.

If you want to leave the country, Cancun has a few family oriented resorts.  Since children (even toddlers) like to dig, I think a beach vacation would be perfect.  There is plenty of sand to dig in, a natural sand box if you will.  Just stay away from the major party beaches.

I hope this helps.

Take care,

Glenn

Hello Bonnie,

Sorry for the to whom it may concern.  When your post came up for moderation, your name did not show up.  I am also sorry for the delay.  I have been doing some SEO changes to my website and have been neglecting my emails all week.  I hope you have a great vacation with your family.  I also wish you success in all you do.

Take care,

Glenn

Hi Glenn,

Thanks for the suggestions.  I had considered VA, but didn't think about the beach being a huge sandbox, very true!

We live in Florida and want to do something different than staying in the southeast.  I'm open to any activity that doesn't involve hiring a babysitter.

I was thinking of a cruise, but I'll have to hire a babysitter if we all go snorkeling.

My husband was thinking of flying to Las Vegas, but we're not sure how the baby will do on a plane.

I guess the only way to find out is to try it.

Again, thanks for the ideas.

Hello Bonnie,

You are very welcome.  Taking a baby on a plane is nothing new.  I'm sure your infant will do fine.  However, I'm not so sure that a baby will have much fun in Vegas, but a side trip to the Grand Canyon would probably be fun for the entire family.  It is not that far and there are tours leaving from Vegas daily.   I do understand that you live in Florida and probably get to the beach very often.  So, if you want to do something different, a beach vacation is probably out of the question.  I hope you have a great time in whatever you decide to do.

Take care,

Glenn
