Mary, you already know my middle name; it is Lawton. I was named after my father's middle name. He grew up being called Lawton. We gave our oldest son Lawton as his middle name. We called our oldest son by his first name, Cameron. Cameron and his wife used Lawton for their (only) son's middle name, and call him by his first name.
I feel that parents should decide what they want to call a son or daughter, then use this as the first name. This simplifies things since in this country we use first name, middle initial, and last name in the military, government documents, etc.
